« on: August 13, 2009, 04:20:47 am »

Are you pulling the pin Crabby :o. My estimation for the collection is 'shit loads'  ;D - I leave that to the Hondaphils.

I wonder about the wisdom of selling a collection 'as a collection' or individually. There were two recent Ebay examples; the XR's in Oz and the RM's in the US. I didn't follow through the final price so I don't know how the strategy went.

shitloads alright.  what a shame some museum doesn't snap them up and put em all in a nice big display for our visual enjoyment in years to come.  talk about the complete range! (ok, so no tiddlers...).  would be just like walking through the showroom of a honda shop thirty years ago (which we all did...and drooled accordingly....).

Hi. No I am not pulling your leg. Yes they are all mine. Only the 1975 Cr 250 and the Honda cr 250 hybrid need a little more work. I have no intention of selling currently. I am hoping to have a calendar made for 2010 with select VMX bikes included each month. Kinda like Ray Ryans book and a hybrid of the Pirelli calendars.
thanks

There's a bit of a South African/Aussie translation breakdown here Gavin  ;D.  "Pulling the pin" translates as getting out of the sport...selling up, not pulling your leg. In Aussie that'd be 'taking the piss' or 'having a lend'.

Looks like you've got the wood on us in the Tri Nations rugby this year :-[.

Hi Mark
No I am not pulling the pin. I have never valued any of my bikes. I had always believed that I  and restored to hold ( an accumulator as opposes to a net seller) however I am curious about the value of an aircooled collection. By the way any of your guys going to Farleigh Castle, four of us are going at this stage.
Hopefully we can meet up with your guys at Farleigh in Sept .

been asked to go look at an early Cr250, is there a web page up that identifies the models by chassis or engine number ? like you can with the suzi site and the yamaha one.

other than owning a green stripe elsinore 125 and later a red 77 i wouldnt have a clue and would rather match the numbers off a list so to speak than guess.........  Im vaugue but i thought both mine had frame date plates, is that correct and did that continue ?

My first MX bike was a brand new 78 250R,  I do dream of having one again as a piece of furniture, so as a "keeper" would be interested in one in great condition... price not so important for the right one...

I know that does not help you too much except I'm sure their is more than one person like me looking for that special bike for what ever reason... so you should get a better return splitting them up unfortunatley..

Is it way too small? A bit of work with the heat gun or hot water could soften it enough to fit if it's close. Maybe some rubber friendly grease as well.

In my humble opinion a complete collection of all the key aircooled Honda's would by accounts be worth considerably more as opposed to selling individually. To me the bikes are my obsession, no intention of selling, however I do see them as an investment and hence after seeing the CR 480 with the XR 350 and 200, I was curious to see the value.
Please God I never have to sell my children(bikes) I have recently picked up a few more (all in a derilict state).

Yes it's been pretty important to me as a keeper of grazing and plough animals myself.... :D
