Its official the internal combustion engine is dead, electric MX bike from Zero engineering makes 23 hp but 50 ft/lbs of torque, which is closing in on most bikes below 600cc for torque.

No pistons and rings to change, just give her a wash and plug her into the wall.

Bring on the 1st entrepreneur that bags himself a fleet of these bikes, finds a big arse factory on the south side of Melbourne and builds a MX track inside, then opens the whole thing up to time share/leasing or something similar. How good would it be to have a WI/WO arrangement where you could go after work for a two hour session twice a week to hone your craft. Just like going to the gym only different.

the only problem I can see with good clean racing on even powered reliable machinery is its freaking boring....viva VMX

Looks like the real deal, at 50 ftlbs torque bet you can fill a whole landfill of used tyres and used batteries in no time.

Imagine how good it'd go in the bush? All that torque right from idle. And it's all single speed right? Now THAT's the way to go trailriding, and no noise to piss people off. How about a hybrid trials bike/MTB for a new recreational vehicle - MTB riding without the pedalling? I'm thinking this will be a real revolution - what a way to get more people on bikes. I'm saving already.

too true, though I am imagining being an hour away from the car when the battery light starts winking. 

still give it time, Japan already has a lot of bicycles that charge the battery on the downhills and pedal assist for you going up.

Maybe the classes could be classified by wattage, lol!

Has it's place in the universe I guess - NEVER again could arseholes shut us down because of NOISE. They would then complain of something else - eg dust!

Never again would you have petrol leak from a loose filler and burn your goolies - instead it would be battery gel !!!
