XL 305 engines??

Firstly, thanks for the pic Bazza! great looking beast, and I'm sure I'll be asking more questions about it yet.....like, who did your work on the motor. :)

Thinking of going this way with my 250 along with head work etc.
So can this motor be a giant killer (In terms of holding it's own with bigger XL's )? or would I be wasting my time ...and money :(
Maybe I should just source an XL 350 motor in the first place and use that instead. ::)
Anyone know the weight difference between the 350 / 250 donks? can't be that much...can it?
Ideas??

i know which motor i'd rather mx,my 350 weighs a ton  ::),250's gotta be lighter!  ;)

if a hammer dosn't fix it,you have a electrical problem!!

250 engine is 9lbs (4kg) lighter.

As I've said elsewhere on the forum, Rob Tumes came w'in a wisker of beating all the bigbore 4strokes including CCMs on his 305 for the Nat title in WA several yrs ago.

Need rings for 305 piston @ 82mm. Has marking "HAINES" on underside, has anyone any ideas?

if you just need rings, send a sample to http://www.jp.com.au/JPPistons.html they might be able to help.

Can I ask what is actually involved in getting from 250 ot 305?  Is it simply boring out to the right dimensions, and fitting the right piston to the new dimensions? or is it a bit more involved, eg installing a new cylinder sleeve first and boring that out?

Also what sort of power improvement could one expect from doing this?

JE pistons http://www.jeproseal.com/ have anumber of 82mm rings as well. Surely one of these must work?
Itk....not real sure what's involved, but the kit I've bought has a new cylinder liner with it, so I guess it needs it?
