DT175 upgrades

I'm planning to do a few upgrades to my 2001 DT175 (4200k's) mainly because its a gutless turd and ADR restrictions seem to have strangled the balls off it.
First up is a head from a IT175E (with appropriate fins cut), then a V-Force reed block (from the YFS200 blaster quad) and lastly a new carbie.
The carbie seems to be a sticking point as I can't seem to find any bloody specs on the DT175E~H carb size (I'm sure it was 28mm?) as the standard 24mm is woefully small even for a 125. New carbs are easy to get and would fit easy too but what I want is a decent E to H model carb for a straight bolt on no fuss fit. Any help or addition suggestions gratefully received......

ditch the expansion chamber.
inside that chamber is another chamber that is extremely restrictive. the outer shell is for looks only.
you could either cut the chamber open and remove the restricting cones in side then reweld it to retain the standard look, or source another chamber.
i had an 87' DT175 that i removed said restrictions from and it was a totally different bike.
that and open up the airbox. ;) :)

The whole Blaster idea is good as they have a stroker and a big bore for them(can get an off the shelf Nikasil Big Bore for them) ditching the pipe and the ignition would be next on the list.

The whole Blaster idea is good as they have a stroker and a big bore for them(can get an off the shelf Nikasil Big Bore for them) ditching the pipe and the ignition would be next on the list.

I still want to commute on it, so fire-breathing options are out, no-one to my knowledge makes an aftermarket pipe for this model of DT the only ones I have seen are for the 77-81 model.

OK the big problem with the DT is it's stupidly short stroke and over square dimensions, this means no matter how many bits and pieces you throw at it it will still be an asthmatic little engine. By putting in Blaster stroker crank and an overbore it will be the exact opposite of a 'fire breather', it will in fact turn into a torquey grunter of an engine, just what the Blaster is ::)

I may just keep it clean and tidy and trade it for something bigger next summer  :-\

RT180 uses the early monoshock style pipe (engine is 64.5 x 54 bore and stroke intersetingly) the only aftermarket pipe I've seen is this...

If someone can tell me that the early type mono pipe will fit the later bike (100%) I will be very keen on this.

for the shear cost of getting one of those pipe delivered to your door, i'd be calling on a mate {if your unable to do it yourself} or someone with a a bit of welding experience and cutting the restrictions out of the STD pipe. big difference, speaking from experience.

I'm loathed to start cutting up pipes and the like especially on a low Km's mint bike like mine and I'm more likely to trade it for something bigger or sell it next summer if the expense of performance mods exceeds $300-$400.

I'll check later this morning, but I'm pretty sure that the intake boot from a YZ125C goes onto the late DT175 barrel. This will allow a 30~34mm carb (at least), although I haven't worked out a decent solution to join the larger carb to the airbox.

IIRC: Twin shock and early monoshock DT175s have a 26mm carb, while the later monoshock bikes have an oval-bore 24/27 (or similar).

Looking at older IT175s and YZ125s will give you all of the 'fun' stuff you could dream of (in a vintage context, at least).
I have a late model pipe that you can cut up, if you don't want to touch yours.

I'm currently considering fitting a late DT175 engine into an IT175F frame for the wife - still road legal, less weight and better suspension than the DT.
