Tassie Nationals
« on: October 12, 2007, 05:40:21 am »
Hi all,
We have received a huge responce to the Tassie 2008 Nationals, we are defiantly holding Sidecars as a few of you have asked. Our Championships will be the only Australian Championship for vintage sidecars and solos that year .Are any of you sidecar guys keen too come and race along side your solo race mates. Pm me if you don't wont to have your interest posted. I know there is politics involved in Sidecar racing on the mainland and anyone would be more than welcome to race down here . May be you could even take home a Australian Championship Medal and Trophy.

Cheers
Fatboy

Great to see things are going back to normal . It looks like you should get enough to run the show. The others will follow. Keep up the good work. regards Walter

Freaky , if you bolt a chair  (folding one )on to your left hand side , you can race at any ASA event, classes ,size or age of the bike dont matter .

So me and my late mates home built outfits are not fit to be on track with others???? Seems we had years of fun with them... Personally I would have loved a factory built pre1975 machine with the very latest 2007 suspension designs and brakes and all, but we could not afford any of that so we used what we could and had a bloody good go at it! But we were wrong using what we built ourselves and enjoying them! It must go against the spirit of whatever "VMX Sidecars" means
Hope somebody else that loves MX sidecars looks to this section now as I have had a gut full  and going to my Speedway outfit as they respect every bodies rights to do and race what you have. Tim 754

I may not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it.

Being from NSW where motocross sidecars quite simply have never really existed in any serious numbers I'm having a hard time getting my head around what Tim and Walter are 'discussing'. I'm not taking any sides as I know and like both Walter and Tim, all I want is to understand what its all about. I would have thought that what goes for pre 75 solos goes for outfits too, or am I over simplifying the situation. Fill us in fellas.

OK Firko , well my view on VMX sidecars is the following .
VMX sidecars are made pre 75  or to pre 75 specs , Wasp , SPP, Hagon, EML, or homemade.
VMX sidecars can only use engine base from pre 75 engines, Honda 750, Kawasaki 900, Norton , Yamaha ,
Suzuki, Hedlund, Weslake, Vincent , Indian,up to 1300 cc as per GCR 1974.
VMX Sidecars can only have the allowed suspension travel as per pre 75 rules.
VMX Sidecars Champion ships are to run with VMX Champion ships on VMX Track as it has always in the past.
I am totally against watering the rules down and bastardising the history just for the sake of buring fuel and get a cheap thrill , ruining  time capsules.
I believe the Australian champion ships are a status that needs to be a little bit above anything else and therefore the running of it , should be of similar layout as it was at the time when it happend (pre 68, pre 75, pre 80 , pre 85 etc).
Anything else to me has no meaning. If I just want to smell burnt fuel , I buy a modern bike and race and flog that to the max with no excuses.
To me VMX is reliving a part of history, not an all in cheap form of tearing around. If anyone wants to do that , he can use clubdays  or hare and hound meetings to do that , but not bastardising the australian champion ships with modern bikes.
The excuse of bike shortage is not correct. I just bought a new Wasp frame the Factory in England last year.
They are still making Wasps as many as you like , same as Metisses for solos.
If anyone wants to build a new home built with an old pre 74 frame , that can be done also for little money.
As long as you use components of that era ( brakes , wheels , engine , carburettors , ignations etc)
To put it in perspective with solos , you would not allow a YZF 2007  with drum brakes , and twin rear shocks to enter the aussie titles would you ?  If you did that , that would be the beginning of the end . You can build a bike like that and use it for pony expresses or hare and hounds to make up numbers , but dont believe you just built classic VMX bike to relive the spirit of the pre 75 era.
Maybe I am wrong , please tell me .

Agree on the Australian titles being  and must be above all other meetings. Pre 68 pre75 pre85 as in GCRS to race for Australian titles only. But why cannot others be Support events OK!
But I am bloody sick of people slagging other people because they choose to be in one or so particular club or  group. AND  GET THIS """ MY""" comments apply to ALL SIDES yes !!! Bumper stickers stating so and so "is a wanker" along with abusive phone calls are sick and forking childish! Others whinging and crying that some events at meetings are for modern machines and three wheeled lawnmowers etc on their business internet  sites is forking childish!  There is not many amounts of outfits, so to have as many as possible at meetings, racing in their own eras seems to me makes sense. But no A calls B a pack of C###S and B calls A likewise and all collapses as C through to Z LOSE ALL INTEREST IN THIS EGO SHIT!!!!!!!!!!! Have promised the ASA that they may use Steves  old 650 at this years "MA sanctioned"  title thingo and will I honour that. After that dont know or care what the shit fight  MX Sidecar  kiddies do. Naa I have had a gut full.
Got access to a few small acres can go out and "burn some fuel" (no racing no attitudes no shit!) just fun anybody wants to join us and have a smile your most welcome ,your risk.............

Walter and friends ,ASA and members ,Someone ? Anybody ? got the GUTS to pick up a phone and set about righting this absurd rift bullshit???
Personal Facts . My membership of the ASA has not been renewed, now lapsed. I believe that Walters suspensions systems are a quality product. My machines are built from entirely pre 75/ pre68  parts (Except the  MA legal Boyer Branson Ignition in the 650 Kawasaki). I never have condoned using converted late model machines in Classic Classes.
I am willing to accept private emails as a neutral party to stop the festering rot. Both parties have my email address.
With out peace future Titles will not be relevant or needed! as the politics will have killed the classes.  Tim

Well I dont understand it either. VMX is VMX and Modern is Modern. Let everyone do what they like. But dont bastardise each others sport. Each has a right to be there. The End full stop. #17 Wasp

Im lost.  we had an even last weekend and there was old DT 360 and the new bikes, i cant remeber if they were in the same class or just shared the track in divisions, but they all seemed to hav4e a good time.

Im like Firko on this one................LOSt.     Must be some back politics in the past that we must have missed.

Vmx................modern ? they are 2 differant events are they not ? is it an MX thing ? we have Chairs in our Dirt titles and i have never heard any bad news ? is it perhaps a Qld thing ? too much sun.............
