shipping 2 stroke pipes from USA
« on: June 14, 2009, 01:03:38 pm »
can anyone tell me how much it should cost to ship a 2 stroke suzuki UP pipe from USA? ive been charged $61USD which i thought was ok but seller said it was oversize for USPS so he will try repacking again.

got any ideas i can suggest to him? he also said he might try Fed X but i think that would be even more?

cheers

USPS is by far the cheapest. $61 sounds ok. I had to get a seller to cut a pipe in half for me once because the US post office said package was too long.

We have imported three pipes in the last year , all uncut and the average price was $72.00 including insurance.

One of the pipes was for a Husky 76 GP 360 and they are quite large as the silencer forms part of the pipe. Funny though , this was the lowest cost to date in relation to postage .$57.00

A complete seat that just arrived was $18.00 including insurance.(postage)

I've bought a few pipes in from the US and only once had a problem with a second hand pipe. Never had any worries bringing in new DG pipes from Dirtoverstock.

how much do dirt overstock charge?

i think the problem is some USA post offices have no clue at all as some will say a part is oversize and some will not. I bought a plastic tank once and seller said PO said it was oversize and cant ship it >:( i told him to ship it to my USA friend and he shipped it no problems for about $43 USD through his PO.

at this stage the seller is being helpful and is willing to re-pack it. im not too fussed on the cost and if i have to pay another $10, all i want is to get it shipped here somehow and not have the post offices over there say its oversize.

I have had a number of 81 Maico pipes sent with two more coming at $78 ea.

Bought a Dirt O/S 79 CR250 pipe a while back with reasonable postage. All aren't heavy and because they are a high pipe aren't too bulky. Check USPS website for max dimensions.

The killer is the under pipes which are too long in many cases.

Another option is to have them shipped via a car carrier eg Leahy. They have approximately 6 week turnaround but check first. They are not rip off merchants.

Helpful ain't I - lol!

If it's a secound hand pipe, get them to stuff some paper up inlet & outlet and tape up .
Any sign of oil will end up costing you more ......dangerous goods

thanks for the response. i have passed on some of it to the seller and will see what he says. If you can get 81 maico pipes sent here then a suzuki one should be ok aswell.

well i got our US mate buddy johnson to ship a Pro Circuit pipe for me earlier this year, and the post office told him US$300 take it or leave it.  because of the size, not the weight.  he tried unpacking it and just bubblewrapping it to make it smaller but no better.  had to bite the bullet and get him to cut it at the start of the stinger and box it.  still $100 or something to ship.  ended up costing me A$350.

shoulda taken firko's advice and go thru his exporter contact (ie, container shipping).

Well i got the pipe today. In the end the seller got it shipped via USPS priority for $41.05 USD :o He wrapped it up in bubble wrap and some sheet chardboard and it was shipped as it was in the shape of a pipe. I was charged $60 but im not too worried as the pipe is outstanding and im very happy with it and the seller could of just stuffed it in a big box and shipped it UPS or Fed EX and demanded $200 plus for shipping, so i am grateful he took the time to repack it and get its sent via USPS. I couldnt believe it only cost $41. So now i know what it can realisticly cost to ship a 2 stroke UP pipe.

I recently bought a YZ465 pipe on Evilbay. Got quoted $98US for shipping to Sydney, when it got here, sticker says $51US :(. Seller did the same, wrapped it in plastic and sent via USPS. Geez I hate being bent over with rip-off shipping costs, but what do you do :-[.

Email the seller and ask him why he overcharged you. I've had a few of them refund the extra after enquiring.

I have bought Circle-F pipe from US before.  $70.00 is a good price.
