Springs for a YZ465G
« on: June 10, 2009, 02:38:44 pm »
Good afternoon yamaha riders. My g banger bottoms out, i'm a fat man who weighs 115kg and drunk's hill was a bone jarring experience over the weekend. The forks and shock have been serviced but obviously the springs are both shagged and not up to the task for my weight. Can anyone recommend someone who makes or supplies new springs to suit a yamaha monoshock? Most of the springs i have seen are for a linkage type monoshock and simply not long enough. What about fork springs?

Both my 125 and 465 H model have shock springs from a subaru. King springs make them.Talk to Nick at Teknik Motorsport on 02 47322626.

Paddles - check with Walter at YSS as well.  I remember speaking to him previously about a spring for my 360B and they are rare as hens teeth so a custom was needed?

cheers

I know a couple of guys who got Kings to make springs for their 250 and 465's. Some late model shock springs fit straight on also, give Paul a ring at MPE suspension in Beerwah.

Paddles,
The "J" model 490 springs fit and are a much stiffer rate, but you will lose some of the progressive wind compared to the "H" spring.

I have also had some success using the "J" spring with a "D" model "small" spring, but you will need some shock body work to fit this.

thanks for the info evo550.

i phoned paul at mpe, he was honest (which was good) and said he doesn't like to do vintage/custom stuff and prefers to work with modern "off the shelf" springs and shock parts.

i've rung yss and will email them with some physical size info of the existing shock spring tonight, they'll see if there's something kicking around that'll suit based on my info so fingers crossed.

i've still got to ring nik at teknik if i draw a blank with yss.
