Broadford track in 1983

I have just been watching the 1983 Mr Motocross dvd thanks to Zorroz, and the track at Broadford with the dam in the middle looked fantastic. Can anyone tell me if that track was on the current site or was it somewhere else.

yes 79' the track was on the current site then, i remember it quite well, it was great to ride.

the long uphill main straight was great, even better was when they had rounds of Mr MX with a full field of 500's at the gate the sound and vibrations was something to behold.

I rode there in '83 and again in '07 at classic dirt and as far as i can tell it's on the same site and the main straight is in the same place as '83.

dates back to around 1980 from memory.

Any ideas why they changed the layout?  To me it looked a much better track than what they have now, especially for the big bore bikes you would be lucky to get out of third gear on the current track.

I remember going to a DVMCC Xmas break up their in 77.
We did some working bee's up their, maybe even in 76?? as well as a few other clubs.

The current track is on the same site but has sort of moved a bit lower.
I'm pretty sure the start gate is lower than what it used to be, with the start going straight up the hill to the top before going left over the triples. The top left corner is also lower than what it used to be as that was the site of the 2 drop offs.
Anyone remember when they ran the track backwards one time & Gally & a few others were double jumping those drop offs up the hill? Can't remember what year that was, think it was a Mr MX round.

I remember the triples at the top of the hill, the "good guys" were rolling the first one then doubling the second 2. They brought Chuk Sun over one time & he started jumping the first 2 & single the last. It was obviuosly much faster & pretty soon everyone was doing it.
A year or so later they were then jumping all 3

I reckon it was a much better track back then too, or maybe it was just better competition back then

there used to be a jump three quarters of the way
up the start straight
used to hit it flat out in top gear
it was a great 500 track in original form
this was my home track all through the eighties
got a video of me racing in 1985 aussie 500 title there
with leisk and williams and all the mob
great track
went down and rode it at classic dirt has been 17 years
was like being in a time warp parts of the
track are still the same and its still
quite a good 500 track
would ride there again in a heartbeat
also current track i could do every corner in third gear

They smoothed out the takeoff ramp for the VIC Titles a bit.

I had some idea that in order to meet FIM approval for the World 500 MX back in 1999/2000(?) the track had to be slowed down a bit, for its speed was too high.  Correct or no?
I went down to watch Mr MX there with Newcastle's Derek (Fuzz) Musgrove, who rode in the main game on YZ465, also when Beetle Bailey and Pete Carney were first hitting here straps. It was nice and fast.

Interesting those quads.I was in the belief that these where for SX only, as I don't seem to recall them allowed on a normal MA MX track...Could you explain why Broadford allows them. 
Also is this the same track that VMX riders where on for Honda Broadford Bonanza

Yes its the same track we rode at the Bonanza weekend, they took out the downhill quad section early on the Saturday,If you rolled the uphill it was ok, I rode the CR250m on it both days every session and had a ball,    although my backs still aching from a few to many hard landings.

Hey KB,
            don`t let Gator see the first photo of the changed table top. I reckon he would have paid a million bucks to have ridden on that one instead of the one that wrecked his leg.

I`m getting confused with how the tracks are prepared these days, that table top was like a brick wall for the vintage bikes at easter and then they smooth it out for the modern bikes to race on.      Peter.

Totally Agree Peter, some of those jumps looked like a sheer wall to me on the approach, i lost my superman cape 10 + years ago.

it was crazy to have old bikes and blokes on a track that suited a minority group of younger guys on later model bikes (late 80's), go figure
