What I do Now....
« on: April 21, 2009, 09:27:39 pm »
Hi, My name is Darren Hill, some of you now will know me as that sorta generous guy that gives vintage bike stuff away and has that collection of beloved bikes, others think of me as that Bastard that just wants to pose off his shit! (Mind you I have been collecting that shit for a damned long time).

Tell the truth I have lived almost my entire life with my own disability and despite this I have had quite a reasonably sucsessful career in manufacturing and maintaining Supermarket trolleys in which I experienced both good and bad times to say the least.

Along the way I was given the oportunity to be involved with some wheelchair technology, which at the time didn't seem that attractive as there was too much money to be made in what I was already doing, and I was of the opinion that "I come first" so Im gunna make as much as I can........

Then one day during one of my "Bad Times" in the industry a long term friend of mine said here read this,it will help! and handed me a book, "The Power of Now" by Echkart Toll, within months of reading this book I had sold both my businesses and taken on the distributorship of LEVO standing technology wheelchairs, this book changed my entire way of thinking,... and my life.

Today I received a email and a link to a website from a trustee of a recent client, his name is Matt Battista,(Some of you may well know of him) he was 2007 West Australian Superbike champion and has a string of motocross championships under his belt, If you have a bit of a read on his website  www.maullainc.com  you will realise why I have sat down to write this and come to the realisation that my choice in career and life was the right one.

Thanks for listening.

Darren,
Steven and I have watched and read the Matt Battista website you have posted up.
We know of Matt through MX here in WA and the fundraising/progress/heart ache that him and his family have endured.
It is incredible the people we pass and meet on all website across Australia from youtube, perthmx to myspace ,ozvmx and still we have and come back to our home base of bikes.
I never in my wildest dream would of thought you would be involved in some item that give comfort/stability/and some challenge for a different life style to others.
Thanks for your fantastic initiative for all.
I will endeavor to try and not assume anything  :-*

There is one touchy thing I would like to ad to this . In my 35 years of racing, the injuries only got worse with the track changes . But obviosly thats what the marketing wants  :(

hell yeah enter Xtreme MX, all the fun of the crashes without the inconvenience of racing or using a really tall seat. You can even watch them die on you tube if you are so inclined. :(

As someone who knows Darren profesionally and personally I can say that there has been significant change in his views of those around him,and how he views himself and what he wants to give to the world instead of hoard away. However....He will still sh$% stir and shoot from the hip to keep those who take it all to seriously in check.

that is all

What a fantastic position you're in Darren, having reached a time in your life when you can own the toys that you dreamed of as a young bloke and live comfortably but at the same time give something positive back to the community by giving the incapicitated a chance of a more normal life. You must feel pretty good about yourself mate. Good stuff.

Good on you Darren.  You obviously know about that thing called Karma  ;)
You have me intrigued by what the book says - don't suppose you can tell us which part in particular did it for you ?
You have helped me with a couple of projects - much appreciated - I am one of those that thinks you are a generous bloke with a stack of great bikes.  Look forward to shouting you a Corona at CD6.
Cheers
Looking for YZ250C parts NOS if possible

"My inability to use emoticins in the right context is really getting me down :)
The only triple jumps he would have been doing are the hop, skip & jump.
