Having a look at Aussie ebay and these came up under Maico search, were these produced from the Maico bike factory for use in VW's and Porsches or is it a different Maico factory altogether ???, the pricing is just about right tho ::)

yes, Maico did indeed do disks for the VW - 1200 and Karmann Ghia definately, circa 1962-3.
see http://gutefahrt.com/maico.html

I have seen a set here in Sydney a few years ago - I think Müller & Müller had them.

A few years ago business aquaintance of mine in Canada bought a California look slammed oval windo VW and when he pulled the Empi wheels off it he found a Maico disc brake conversion. Seeing that he was going to use a Porsche front end he took the Maico kit along to a VW hot rod shop in Vancouver and they clean swapped him a complete early 911 Porsche front end already modded to fit the VW and a set of Fuchs Porsche wheels for the Maico discs and rare Empi wheels. Apparently VW guys go nuts for the Maico stuff.

There must have been a bit of a tie up between VW and Maico as the disc conversion isn't the only thing. Maico used VW paint code on the pre 1975 range and Firko was told by his German ex factory contact Ulrich that a number of Maico castings and some electronic work was undertaken by VW on a contract basis. I had a VW petrol cap on my Maico back in the old days just to be different!
