Cartridge Emulators in Yamaha 34mm forks.

Which part # did you use?

Did you need to change springs afterward?

if your talking about the race tech ones then they have a dimensions sheet on their website. you just need to look for the one that fits the ID of the fork tube, fits in the ID of the recess in the top of the damper rod and also to check that the ID of your fork spring fits over the ports in the emulator. if you cant find one that fits on/in your damper rod then you may need to make a alloy spacer/adapter. The info on their website expalians that.

I was kinda hoping to avoid doing the research... Hoping someone would say "Yep, YSS part #xxx goes straight, after you drill the hole out to 10mm" or something like that.

I'm also curious myself for the 34mm forks on my DT1 project. I'd rather use YSS to support someone who supports us rather than using Race Tech Gold valves if possible Leith. What's the guff on 34mm Yammy forks Walter?

Nathan I had Les Richters fit a set of YSS PD valves to my MX360, he made some spacers up and I supplied a set of DT250 springs as they are 25mm shorter than the stock MX springs, I am very happy with the result, it's near perfect for me, not so harsh on comp now, Les would have the specs he used on my forks

thats ok Oggy Doggy, i just thought when Nathan said emulators he ment race tech brand. if he said PD valve then i would have known he ment YSS. Also just to make you aware, Race Tech now support vintage racing and do have a vintage product range that is growing. The local outlet in australia is http://www.shocktreatment.com.au/ so it doesnt really matter what brand you buy, as long as you buy it here, you will be supporting Australian business' eitherway

Interesting semantics.

I used the word emulator, because I figured that it would be the generic name for something at emulates a cartridge internal, whereas I figured "PD Valve" sounded a lot more like a specific name for a specific brand's product.

Sorry Walter, but you were a size too big for my forks and may also be for Nathans.
It depends on the fork wall thickness. And these older forks often have thicker walls.
I needed to use the PD265 in my IT175F 36mm forks.
I reckon you will need the PD238, but like Walter said you should measure the damper rod piston diameter first.

Nat i got the part number for the Gold valves if needed, still have the Box and the 25 RAce Tech stickers it came with .

HAd them in the MX 250 fitted straight in, currently they are in the TM but Pete Hoey turned up a spacer in relief, and we also drop the spring by 38mm from memory, not that thats important cause its the Suzi, but im pretty sure the ID, OD and stuff was bang on for the YAmaha and it just went in and i preferred it without the spring trim as it give a nice pressure on the cap for preload.

I dont have the packet at this house in town, but i think it was made into a kit "the FEGV 3004 " and that kit should also come with the spacer and ring clip in the KIt.

also think its the same valve as the RD's but i know that after we got some measurement and phone time in with martin, he sent spacer lifter etc to make it all fit sweet , they now sell it as the kit  for the KYB34c just do a search on that kit or speak to pete Hoey on here, he can order that kit in , i know i saw his front office staff open a big box that came in the other day full of valve sets from the USA when i picked up my YZF forks after a little seal service  :'( 

they used to be about $140 usd Direct a while back, but probally the kit would be $199 ? by now

yep FEGV3004 is the one. pays to shop around for better prices rather than direct from RT. look for discounters/bulk buyers on ebay.
