How much for interest sake Marc? I have done a couple of tanks already in those colors so I suppose the helmet wouldn't be a problem.
Cheers,
K

Guys - we have a forum member - Red Alert - who is very well known for his graphics/airbursh work in particular with helmets and painted mine in the old school red white and blue Honda colours.  I don't know what his workload is like but drop him a line for a price.  His work is exceptional and in fact has done some for charity auctions to support the cause.  In Perth also.

cheers

Whats the go with painting helmets? my new fibreglass shoei says dont modify it or put any chemicals such as paint near it. Can you only paint fibreglass and not polycarbonate helmets? is the only risk the paint fumes getting into the foam? if you fully masked off the liner etc so no fumes can get in it ot reach the foam, should it be all ok then? im half considering it but also dont want to compromise the safety of the helmet. otherwise i will just leave it white and stick on some JT lightning bolts and a few other stickers

Heat is also an issue. Normal 'air dry' should be okay but heat lamps might become an issue.

I'm surprised the Fibreglass helmet said not to spray.

I certain helmets can be sprayed safely otherwise CAMS and MA wouldn't allow custom helmets as they do.

well it more in way just says dont put any chemicals on the helmet like paint, solvents etc, do not drill or modify etc. only clean with mild detergent

heat? is that to stop runs?

so you reckon if you were to mask off the inside and dont use any heat to speed up drying it would be ok?

i would imagine acrylic or 2 back base coat and 2 pack clear over top should be ok? my modern Fly helmet has a thick glossy clear coat which would have to be 2 pack clear i reckon.

a lot of the stuff you read says that the original hemets are 'specially painted, by special helemt painters with special paints etc' but i think its more of just a deterant to stop people doing it them selves?

2 pack on a helmet is fine, i've done many of them. The heat is to cure the paint but it tends to make the fibres swell in fibreglass and could distort a polycarbonate helmet. I can paint a tank like that no problem, i had a bike painting business for years and painted 5 of Barry Sheenes GP bikes for his collection, Mick Doohans camo RZ500 that he restored a couple of years ago, Steve Galls YZ250a, Dave Tanners RN400, RH250, TM400 Cheney and Velocette as well as many others modern and vintage. I work as a mechanic now and just do a little painting on the side if anyone needs any tanks like that done. Cheers

well 2 pack paint is a chemical reaction and it has hardner in it so it will harden/cure by it self. So guess as long as you use no heat it should be fine eh.
