Suzuki TM frames

I am looking at the possibility of fitting different sized motors in my TM125 frame.

Is there much of a difference between the various models of Suzuki TM frames, eg TM125, TM250 and TM400 - will a 250 or 400 engine fit in a 125 frame, or am I pretty-much stuck with a 125 engine ?

Your pretty much stuck with a 125 motor , a pre 77 TS 185 motor goes in with minimal mods .
The 250 and 400 motors are way bigger , Wider and longer.
I believe it could be done but it would involve a lot of frame cutting and shutting .

TS185, that's the easiest conversion.

There are about three forum members building these including me. When I get a chance I can provide some details but there are others that are further on. I built one in about 1977.

I'm building one, all you have to modify is the lower right engine mount. It needs to be moved about 20mm to the right, even the front mount plates are the same.

I'm using 76 model clutch and mag covers as they look "TM" on a pre '76 engine and bolt right on plus I have a Suzuki "hop-up" kit pipe to complete the look.

stewy, I've had that thought as well although I tried to shoehorn an RM400 into the TM125. The RM400 is a lot more compact than the TM250/400. The engine is still a little wider and the lower right frame rail interferes with the shift shaft bt with some mods to the cradle it will work. I have given this project a bit of a wide berth at the mo but in no way is this idea or project dead and buried, just awaiting winter when I'll have time to burn

I have TS/TM that I built way back when with 74 TS185 engine and Bassani pipe.

It was pretty easy, you can resuse the front mount but I feel it sets the front of the motor too high, I made mounts that leveled the motor and set it back about 20mm.

The old TS motor is pretty unbreakable.

Thanks for that Guys, I guess I can stop salivating over the TS400 engine on ebay now.  At least I wont be getting in trouble with the Missus this month  .  What class would you ride in with a 185 motor and a 125 frame ?
