Ebay's, Buy Now or Best Offer System. Has anyone used it? How does it work, you make an offer and they either accept or give a counter offer at the end of the period?

I have only used the once - offered what i thought was a fair price and the guy came back and said OK.  I don't know what happens though when he has a couple of offers - what does he accept?

They usually sell/have multiple items.  :P, so could be a scam  ;)
We use BUY NOW &  BEST OFFER more than the usual ebay items, but then we have modern bikes too.
We bought CRF brake pads for $9.99 at the local shop they are $43  :o
cheers

I do pretty well on best offers, usually I can cover the cost of freight a bit. Bought some NOS CR spokes sets from Thailand like that and pretty much got the freight covered.

I'm looking to do it off an American site. Do you get the postage first and then haggle. Surely there's the risk if you don't they'll agree to the price and bite you on the postage ::).

What, use the Buy Now and take all the fun out of it? To enjoy the fun I don't even use a sniper. Sitting up at 2am with the adrenaline pumping is what its all about isn't it?  :P

Nah, just kidding ;D. Yeah I've used Buy Now and regularly use a sniper service but haven't used Make An Offer. I thought I might get a feel and some tactics from the accumilated wisdom of the forum ;) :D.

I tried it on a car once. Started low and worked up. The knock back was almost instant so it has to be automated as if a lower amount that the seller will take has been programed in. I did the same with an engine cover. Started at $110, then $120 and then $130 which was accepted. So find out postage from seller and as others have said, if the postage is for eg $20, offer $20 less and post is free in affect .

Success ;D. I got it at half price which pays for the postage US to Oz ;D.  The offer went back and forwards a few times. One go and I think I'm hooked ::).
