First Time Licence

Thought I'd get a race licence again, its been a few years since I last held one. Spent too much on day licences and rec. permits last year.
To my suprise I'm classed as a first time applicant. Licence expired longer than twelve months. (Rule 3.1.1.8 b 2009 MOMS).
Got to do a test. The guide book is titled: Getting Started in Motorcycle Sport, A guide to obtaining your first senior competition licence.
Well I started some time back and this will be my fourth, I think, senior licence.
So previous licences dont count because of the time thingy, nor do the hundreds of dollars spent on day licences over the past six or seven years. This hasn't always been the case. Back in 00 or 01, I simply renewed a 1984 licence.
And I have to pay another $15.
Am I wrong to be just a little pissed off?

Do competition licence costs and procedures vary between states?  I,m in Vic.

thats interesting - my son rode about 3 meets one year on one day licences and then next year I was able to use that as "evidence" to get his full licence no questions asked - WA?

I know that a rec licence which costs $85.50, which entitles you to ride practice days & club days only, of which the breakdown to MV is $20.00 for the licence, Admin fee, insurance, 1x MA public liabilty fee, 1x MV public liability fee then gst  This licence allows you to ride at any financial club in which you are a member & I believe can be used as a credit against a Senior National Licence. It might be of interest for all to know, that from the 1st of May, anyone renewing an existing race licence, must have there renewal application in no later than close of business on a Tuesday, 1 week prior to a race event, otherwise a $55.00 emergency licence fee will be charged & clubs applying for permits must have there permit applications in 3 wks prior to an event, or a $220.00 late fee will be incurred & yes, dont let that race licence expire for any length of time, because again, you will need to redo the test.  Its a shame that all the monies you have spent on Day Licences dont count, I see so many who have previously entered for our Viper series, who do the entire season on Day Licences, who would be better to have a national licence, racing might be our passion, but where is the incentive.

They usually hand em out anyway.yep you can be a little pissed off. 
It has become this way as some senior rider got on the track,said he could ride and found they had never riden on one before and promptly broke something,,,one bad apple wrecks it for the rest..
It is becoming an amazingly hard job for the club secretary now days.  :'(
In WA its cheaper to get a national license than one day license, especially if you ride over 6 events for the season.It soon adds up,but as 2 shocks has explained where is the incentive.

Similar situation to me facthunt, but it must depend on who you speak to. The first guy at MV told me that I could tick 'renewal' but that they'd also send me some additional paperwork in the mail. I didn't have to pay the extra $15 though.

However, it seems my application has disappeared somewhere between the mailbox and MV. So, when I called back the woman I spoke to seemed to think I should have submitted it as a 'new' application (with the extra $15).

This meant I had to get a one day licence for the first VIPER round so I could get it in in time, and I wanted to send off the HBBB form too, so the fee started to look less appealing. So I told them that if the form ever turns up not to process it as it's no longer financially sensible.

I've spent a lot on one-day licences over the years, and I am sure that proper licences used to be a far cheaper option. Anyway, I won't bother for 2009, maybe next year.

You are right about some of the pedantic aspects of renewing a competiton licence. When I re-applied for my competition licence last year, after 11 years out of competition, MSA would not accept any of my previous comp licences as proof that I could ride, however, they did acepted my normal SA road motorcycle licence.  I still had to do the basic theory test even though I am licenced through them as a coach and actually take junior riders through the licencing test!

I went to  a club day at Whitsunday, had to fill out a quiz on a selection of GCRs, mainly flags & officials, etc before hitting the track.
I haven't had an open licence since they were called ACU licences many years ago, have been paying for day licences.
Sent away my application for a Senior National licence, photo, and a photocopy of my drivers licence with Motorcycle endorsement as proof of competancy, plus the necessary funds, and 10 days later received a package with my licence and a copy of the MOMCS.  No drama, too easy.  I'm in Queensland, the Smart State.

The application form requires a a copy of your current Motorcycle licence, otherwise all the other conditions apply.  I've got a bike licence, so it simplifies the process.

Got mine via MQ. First competition license for over 25 years.  Only had to supply copy of my bike license for the road.  No tests necessary.
