Jurassic park

With the recent Ulysses activity around Penrith got me thinking (always dangerous ;D). The VMX movement should do something in conjunction with the Ulysses club for these events - a display 'show and shine' or even a race meeting. They strike me as a 'target audience'. Symbiotic comes to mind.

When the Nats were held at Coffs a couple of years ago, the ulysses club had there annual run with over 10000 members coming to Coffs. I remember that Coffs promoted it pretty well in the area and the Ulysses were in town for a week and I reckon youd of been lucky to have 20 members turn up to check out the action, pretty pathetic for bunch of bike enthusiasts of this magnitude :-\

I was going to make a similar comment about the Coffs nationals weekend . Last year the Ulysses annual convention was held in Townsville & I went along for a look . I found them to be mostly an unfriendly bunch, with a lot of them on Harleys with a head stuck up their arse attitude . It seemed to me to be as much about image,  as it was an interest in motorcycles . Many of them must have been new to bikes , cause they couldn't ride for shit & the ambulances had a busy week scraping them off the roads & carting them off to hospital .

I was a club member (3 Year membership, but I didn't renew it) and was at the Coffs do. They have their share of wanna be outlaws, general wallies etc., but we had a good time up there and met some great people......and yep we did go the MX meet.  :D

Thats good that you and about 19 bike orientated blokes turned up MX but would of thought junior members at 40 and seniors at 50 years of age would have had some interest in old VMX bikes seeing they would have all been around for the era. Turnout of that size will have good blokes no doubt but i would have bet money ya would of got at least a couple hundred turnout on a lazy sunday afternoon to watch classic nats, so back to the original question, leave the ulysses to do there own thing. Promote it with the younger guys coming through if anything as theyll be the future ;)

If you look at it the other way, would you go to one of their gatherings? I for one would not. Looking at a heap of old guys wearing leather, not knowing where their skin finishes and their jacket starts. Plus all those farting arm chairs. Riding one conjures thoughts of a HQ Holden on two wheels. Angry sounding ant, aren't I?? Just taking the piss really.

Hmmmmm, interesting comments. I've had very little contact with Ulyssis and what contact I've was unpleasant. I left them not quite sure 'is it me or them?  - but someone is a complete wanker'.

In a group they wanted to sit next to me or on my arse, wouldn't buffer away from oncoming B double doing 110kph, and couldn't go pass a servo without stopping for a piss or a Kit Kat. But their worst crime was doing 90 in 100 zones and 100 in 110 zones. No idea of how to ride safe but paranoid about breaking the law ::) - go figure :).

Maybe a Show and Shine with skinny Caffe Latte's would be more their style ;) :D.
