"I had this listed as a single auction with the bultaco frame until I found out how rare this motor actually is. I am sure all of you would have done the same and relisted the engine/gearbox with a realistic start price for what it actually is. I still have people telling me that the start price is too low, but I want to be realistic.

This motor is mounted in a 1976 Bultaco Mk9 Pursang frame and you are only bidding on the engine/gearbox [frame is in a seperate listing]

The motor turns over freely and has compression. I have never started this engine nor tried as there is no ignition coil, the kick start lever and gear lever are also missing. I got an sms from a friend saying he may have either a kick start or gear lever for me , if that does turn up then it will be included in the sale.

The longer people sit watching this and not bidding the more chance I have to find out what it is really worth, I just had a reply from South West Montesa in Arizona and I quote here:-

"Only 12 11M's can be accounted for worldwide at this time.  Very rare.  Motor should be worth $1500+  It's the only 4 speed trials motor ever made by Montesa.""

I reckon he's got no hope even at $1000. It's a rare motor, in unknown condition, but is pretty worthless without the rest of the bike.

I agree.  Without the proper frame and bits, a pretty limited market.  He did
e-mail and said he had a spaniard that had a frame but no motor, so who knows...

167 frame butchered to take 4sp Mon engine & rear shocks laid down too far (which causes falling rate suspension not rising rate progression) aint going to be worth much

I still have my 167 bought new from Donny Newell in Aug 76. Rear shocks & lack of up-pipe is about all that let it down.

In the Montesa "modern era" (after 1965) only the early 1976 VA 360's
had the crank mounted clutch.

I assume that because the auction finished early it sold for more than $1000 :o. I wonder if the Spanish buyer has the rest of the bike or a good part of it? If he does I suppose he can't believe his luck :). Lets hope a little of Monty's history is coming together and being preserved ;D.

$2500 he's laughen,
