Casey Stoner wins MotoGP

In case you haven't heard local lad Casey Stoner clinched the MotoGP championship at Motegi this afternoon.20years since Wayne Gardner first won his chmpionship and first for 30 years for a European manufacturer.

A truely worthy World Champ. And at 21yo truely impressive. Lets hope Casey, Val, Chris and Westy get it all together next year for a real ding dong knockem down contest.

was just on 60 minutes just then :O)

we have a lad in our club. Joel (Pelliconi ?), who i think YSS might know ( he was in your van) he couldnt be more than 10-12, we raced 4th round of the state dirt track today and he was on a 85cc yamaha.    Any how i noticed him in his first race of the day, and made a point of watching him between our races as we gridded after them, this kid just smoked, clean lines, wide open throttle on all the sweepers, this thing was pinned and it just sat in a perfect power full drift, bike didnt move an inch !

i thought at the time i wonder what time he was doing cause it was awesome to watch compared to the  seniors he was so incontrol, not running up to the tyre walls etc , just smooth and fast ( well set up bike too)  any way my point was last race of this flat track meet was a dash for cash, you get 1 lap winner takes the $$$ coin.  

At Today's meet the sponser put up another purse for the fastest junior ( we are big on junior development here) any way every one had a ping, even teh kids and this kids was still smooth and fast it was a perfect lap.

At the presentations the last prize was the dash for cash you guessed it this 10 yr old kid won the juniors ( under 16) they called the top 3 times, then they called out the top 3 senoirs times ( and we had about 4 or more A graders riders out today) this kid was less than half a second off the best seniors time and had the second outright fastest time on our the longtrack on an 85cc   this kid is 10 ?  i heard someone say he has a factory test in europe late this year on an invitation.   the talent is out there, we just need to get them to the world stage.  this kid is going to be one to watch if he sticks with it.

Next year is going to be a hoot and the Sixty Minutes presentation did our sport a heap of good. Casey and Chris were great on there tonight and now Casey's THE MAN!

Glad to see he wrapped it up..oh should I have been cheering for a Us rider? I was cheering for the Ducati rider-who earned it and deserved it the most. He got it.

Best part about that boy is his down to earth, unassuming type of personality. He wont have to go up two helmet sizes now he's won.. i like that.

Yep, not only that Brad he's also funding a 'Team 27' 125GP bike for some lucky youngster to ride localy. To hopefully smooth the path to European GP's. Something that no other high profile O/S based rider  has done yet.Heady stuff for a 21yr old.

Yeah good on him ,I'm glad he survived his early try hard crashes , He did have some big ones . Anyone who has beaten Valentino for a world title is in elite company and a top bloke too. I can wait to see them all in action at the Island . If anyone else is goin down to the track contact me and will catch up for a beer.

Despite my 'prediction' that he wouldn't go a lot better this season.....  ........ it really has all come together for him this year. It just goes to show how only a few seemingly minor changes make such a difference in the Moto GP world.
btw I liked Valentino Rossi's comment on 60 Minutes about how Casey had done so well to be world champion at 21 but he said "Also remember that at 21, I was world champion 3 times aleady" 
Kinda puts it into perspective a bit..............

I think that Casey's path into the GPs was most likely a lot harder than Valentino's - after all Rossi was the prodigal son in the GP paddock from a very early age. Not that he isn't supremely talented, he is.

It's just that Casey's path has been much more difficult in my view, having to prove himself over and over on uncompetitive bikes and without large personal sponsorship to smooth the ways into the good rides as some other riders seem to enjoy.

All power to him - it is a magnificent achievement and it's especially nice for him to do this and allow us all to be a proud Aussies again in realtion to Moto GP.

it's so good to read some positive stuff for a change about Stoner.
i've been following the moto gp on the yahoo page a bit of late and some of the comments on that forum have been soo negative towards him.
he deserves the tittle in my opinion.

I was my estimation last year that Casey was doing an A grade job with B and C grade equipment, in a B grade team (sorry no reflection on the talent of the Givi team just that they are not factory and it was their first year in Motogp and first year with four strokes - a big ask and a great effort).

Recently Val admitted that he has had the best of the best for several seasons (implying that he hasn't got 'the package' this year).

This year Casey and Ducati have had 'the package', and not by accident. I think you'll find there was conscious effeort and careful planning and plotting behind the scenes at Ducati (although the selection of Casey was an 'accident' - fourth in line  ). I not quite sure where the greater responsibilty for the win lies, with Ducati or Casey. Let just say it was a fortuitous and timely union for both of them.

But Casey contribution both on the track and with his feed back must be exceptional - just look to his team mate who should have had every advantage over Casey. Even before this win if you looked with insight you got a quick glimpse of genuine warmth and friendship between Casey and his team - this kid has leadership - he can get the best out of the people around him.

However I'm confident that this is not just a 'flash in the pan' 'stolen march' win. Casey is going to be at the top of the MotoGP totum for sometime.

Casey has proven that he is a 'racer's racer' and a true Champion.

I think the description of A grade rider doing an A grade job on B grade equipment applies equally to Ant and Chris.
