VF250 complete
« on: March 02, 2009, 08:11:58 pm »
Just thought I would give everyone an update on another VF250.

runutz698 has done a great job with his which was a far more difficult restore than mine. I think this is the only VF250 in NSW, now I have said that I am sure they will come out of the wood work.

Just a few small things to go. Then to start it!!

MX250,
Stop trying to show me up lol
Looks Great, I think I am going to change my side covers to the same as yours as I am begining to think they look better, They still look a bit like they were designed on a comodore 64 but in a cool sort of way.

But keep up the good work.

Runutz
P.S. yours is the only other vf250 I know of in australia.

What year is VF? I sent a '79 Cappra 250 (VE?) to a guy in Queensland a while ago. It was a VB lookalike though with VB tank & side covers. I hated the poxy almost see through, looks like it's piss stained fuel tank. Really good bike though.
Cheers,
K

Eerrr thanks BigK............I think. I have the bike as standard as possible. I still have the original tyres but they basically fell to pieces when I removed them.

Have to agree the VE/VF tank material isn't the best looking but seems to last OK and looks just as bad now as when I owned a new VE414 (in very late '78 I think). VF tank shape is much better than the VE as it is lower and narrower at the rear.

I am pleased with the result so far. I have the original shocks which will be painted and fitted for photos before I start wrecking it again. Will change the handlebars to something that doesn't cause permanent skeletal damage to the wrists. Hopefully have it on the track in two weeks.

The VE and the VF tank colours are completely different. The VE was more of a olive drab, the VF more a mustard colour. I do have a VE tank at home so if the guy ever wanted to convert it back he could (for quite a few dollars of course!). Would love to have a VE again..... :-\

I wasn't having a shot at your bike montynut, and Ross is correct about the colors being different. The VE tanks look like a pair of white jocks that have been washed way too many times in a muddy dam. Sorry ross, the standard tank went up with the bike so I don't think there's a sale for you.
Cheers,
K

That's all right Mick. I just like to look at it and wait for the rest of the bike to turn up!  :D

It runs and everything operates as the spanish intended 8) ;D Other than a small fuel leak (easily rectified) it seems to run sweet as. Started fifth kick.

Will post some pictures a little later.

Yes, Ross and BigK I knew the VE & VF were different colours but the tanks are very similiar material which looked very second hand right from new. My '83 Cota 350 and friends '80 Cota 349 have similiar materials for their tanks. Seems to be very tough material but not the best appearance. Montesa actually went back to fibreglass for the tank on my '81 Cota 349 (white wonder) as it was lighter.

My '84/85 Cota 242 has an Acerbis plastic tank seat unit which is much thinner and almost translucent. It is also very good quality but looks much nicer even now. It also has a plated cylinder instead of a sleeve. Hard AS but pistons are as rare as rocking horse droppings. Honda's influence is much more obvious in the '83 and later Monties.
