125 OR BIG BORE

Tell me, do you prefer to ride a 125 or a big bore.
My reason is that l can ride a big bore hard, but l enjoy the weight differance with a 125, and l know within my ability that l am or should say in my race days l was clocking faster times on a 125 over riding a 250 or 360. That is why l like my 125s.
I would like the power of a 250 or 360 with the weight being of a 125. and slim line, this would be l ideal vintage bike.

Everyone can ride the ring off a 125 so it makes for close racing.
Always said if you were only allowed to ride one class it would be the 125

i love riding my big bore, it gives me a buzz especially on big tracks.

but when it comes down to lap times i am much quicker on a 250. but these days i ride for fun so the big bore is my choice.

I think it depends on body size, personal experience/background, preferred type of riding, the local area/district, what ya mates ride and types of tracks.

I like all of them but most prefer the 250 class. Ya can 'ride the wheels off the things', 'take it to the max', and not be intimidated. 360+ (two strokes ) tend to be too much of too much , especially in MX.

I like either end of the scale. The least bikes i have are 250's for some reason. I like the 'ride it like you stole it' 125, as well as the buzz of a big bore. My cr125ra is close to my favorite bike because of the way it is so ride able. I dont think body size is an issue unless the person thinks it is. I am 90kg which is pretty heavy for a green tank 125. I am still competitive on the old girl though.

500 on a 4 stroke, 250 on a 2 stroke. I am faster on a 250 but really like ringing the neck of a big thumper. Being 6'2" and 105kgs probably puts me out of the 125 class.

For me it depends on the riding. Motocross, or what passes for MX with my abilities, is much easier on a 125. I love my 05 YZ125 and my 75 RM125 even more. On a nice open grasstrack, I'll take a bigbore anytime. The best bikes I've ridden lately on grasstracks were my Husky CR500 (a real blast) and my HL500 (just good fun though not real quick). Enduro and trailriding give me a 175/200cc 2-stroke anytime, but I suspect I'd enjoy a modern 250F too. And for dirt track, I think a 250 2-stroke, although my favourite dirt track bike in recent years was my RM400N. Hmm... have I covered all the bases?

If I could only have one vintage bike, it'd be my RM125.

love my cr125 RB had it from new and still love racing it. You have to work hard to keep em on the boil but thats the best bit about them.

depends on the track a lot
tight or flat corners are not very 500 friendly but on a
125no problemo
but fast straights bermed or rutted corners and sweepers
cant go past the 500
i have been riding 500s for nearly 30 years and love em
but lately everyone has lent me 125s to ride
never raced one before
love it had a smile the whole race spewing when
checkered flag came out thought i was going to blow them up but they kept going
now i have a shed full of 500s
and 3 baby 125s tucked in corner

the power of a 250/400 with the weight of a 125 eh (utopia)..2 vintage mx bikes I can think of straight off the bat that would suit, 1st is a 125 on methanol and 2nd is an RH250..maybe even an RN400, they only weigh about 90kgs with power to burn the 185 you're selling wouldn't be a bad thing with a little work. I sometimes wish I had a 185 to play with and that model is ideal as it the engine is based on TM appearances. I've the 185ER but not a snowballs hope in hell of ever getting that half competitive as they're Evo class up against the likes of RM250T's, CR250R's and a swag of others

why didn't Honda productionise the ME360, or build CR400... mid sized 2 stroke is perfect and the guys who went the further est down that route KTM are still building the 300, if you have ever ridden one you will know why.

My Suzuki TS 185 SITTING IN A TM 125 FRAME, BORE OUT, RUNNING ALCO, 32 MM CARBIE, SLIM, VERY LIGHT. I THINK IT WOULD BE A WEAPON IN THE ALLPOWERS CLASS. DONT YOU

a bit off topic but modern 144cc ktm and tm enduro bikes are unbeatabe in the right hands.also yamaha make a kit to turn their yz125 into a 144.near 250 4t power in a 125 size and weight
