Evo rules

Ok, most people say i cant run a reed on my 81 maico 490. Reeds came out on twin shock maicos, GS' yeah? As they did have reeds in '81, why cant i use a reed from one??? If i wanted to back in the day i could have done that swap. Anyone care to put their money in (2 cents plus GST!)

Have a fistful of literature and factual info on hand when you show up for scrutineering, argue that other manufacturers were and had used reeds for years and just because no one "back in the day" tried it doesn't mean you shouldn't. Remind them that using more modern stuff is common in vmx such as using T.S.R software to design new pipes for old bikes, reed materials too such as carbon fibre V-Force etc. Also point out (especially if on hand) that many evo bikes are running "FAT" bars and wide pegs a very modern and most importantly non-period modification. The scrutineer will either pass you through quickly rather than get into a bitch session or ban you and your f**king bike for life.

Oh and thats a buck o-five worth  ;D

Brad, you can run a reed valve, just find a cylinder off an '82 GS490 enduro. It was a twinshock and had a reed valve. Also i'm sure it would be legal to fabricate a reed onto your cylinder using a yamaha or similar reed block from an evo bike, that was a mod back in the day.

Actually its more a what if. I dont intend on doing it myself, just saw one on a guys bike he is building which is '81 frame and '82 reed motor, he feels that its legal and i wasn't sure so i put it out there.Got yours sorted yet John? Going to Coles?

Parts from any Evo bike are legal on any Evo bike. End of story.

So if the 82 GS is Evo legal (sorry, not so good on the specs of Maicos) then any/all of its parts are legal on an 81 MC.

Parts from an Evo Yamaha are also legal on an 81 MC.

Etc.

The good thing about telling the truth is that you don't have to remember what you said.

Freaky the stator is digital #1013 and the cdi module is analog #105458 and is the correct module for my maico. Just need to get the right stator i guess.
