At least quite a few of us were very fortunate to talk for a while with the great man at CD5, and such a decent humble gentleman he was! My cap had a faded #22 Reed sig on it but Joel's on it is now gold and the cap is in semi retired mode !!!

Todays racing, l can`t tell who is who and what bike is what, paint them all white, and the same patten clothing, it not like the 60`s 70`s to 80 `s but at the vintage meetings today their should be a ruling, WARNING if period clothing is not warn, don`t bother riding. I tryed to uphold that rule years ago, some riders will and some couldn`t careless.

I hate seeing riders racing vintage in modern riding gear. They go to extremes to get their bikes looking right then turn up in ugly Fox, Thor or whatever modern riding gear and helmets that look like the Griswolds Xmas decos. There should be a period clothing rule I reckon. I understand safty is the main consideration but you can buy period style modern nylons and jerseys and plain helmets.

you can buy alot of gear in plain colors, boots in black, helmets in plain colors, but like you  said some people care and some don't. I think nothing looks worse than riding a Rickman or Cheney in the latest lairy MX dancing suit. Everyone knows these bikes should be ridden in rugby jumpers.

That is a great Photo , I have been involve with vintage racing ever since it started here in victoria, the first race meeting was held at barrabool, it was a rush to be there and the excitment was overwhelming, l race around to get my VR ready for this event, only pair of handlebar to use was flat bar, just like your skid bars that we all used back in the golden era, and it was shit house to ride, but my race clothes where spot on. Now l think it time that all vintage racing fellows should slick to gather, and right a letter to the committee our so called governing body who ever they are should submit a authentic period clothes ruling should be put to practise and within the ruling at all meetings ,We the founding member plus 10 original other members that started the Governing body of vintage motorcross and rules MAV
