Darwin M/C club sign on day Sunday 22 Feb
« on: February 21, 2009, 12:27:25 am »
Just in case any locals read this.

The DMCC are having their sign on day at Hidden Valley Motorsports complex on Sunday.

Barrel race, mini Enduro and a natural style MX track.
The three rounds of the Thumpers series will be held here on each of the next three fortnights after the sign on day.

It's starting to look like the club could have a fairly permanent base there soon.

I've just gotten home from the above meet and we had a ball. The track has no jumps but lots of fast open corners.
I took my XT and my mate Muz took his YZ250D and YZ125C.

I faced off with Muz in the barrel race and for the first time in 32 years I actually beat him in something!
And no he didn't fall off. XT500 V YZ125C, I had the advantage in the short straights but he had me on the corners.

We had three rounds of play racing I got to ride all three old bikes. For the last ride I got a friend to ride my 500 and I took the 250D. I was chasing my bike on a big sweeping corner and thinking I was doing fairly well til Muz went past on the 125, one gear higher and both feet up! he then proceeded to chase down the moderns.

The little 125 had to be the most fun bike to ride but I couldn't believe how tired I was after it. And I've never changed gear so many times in my life
Ride it has really given me the motivation to get my Tm125 finished!

Jimson we had aabot 60-70 bikes, 20-30 quads, 30 juniors and 4 old bikes.

The three mentioned above and an immaculate mid 80's CR250 that gets RIDDEN hard.

There was a lot of "talk" in the pits, the sort of "I've got an old bike at home should get it out"
We live in hope

I'm still keen to come up for a ride Brent, that grass track sounds like fun. But if the only events there are over the next month or so I can't make it. As well as my 50th and a couple of local races, I also am off to Avalon on March 14 for the airshow. Not many spare dates available! Do you have a calendar for the year?

I'll get a calender to you as soon as I can.

Three events in the next three fortnights then a bit of a break. It looks like we have a new piece of land (and only 15mins from home) so there could be more meetings later in the year.

Avalon airshow.............................................so many events, so little time (and money) enjoy the sounds of real engines at that one!

Yeah, I went to Avalon a couple of years ago and it was great. I think I've already mentioned to you that the best engine note of all was the Boomerang. Man that thing sounds good. Hope it's there again this year.

Look forward to seeing that calendar!

Boomerang eh, I made parts for that!

As good as it sounds I still reckon the Seafury at full noise is the ultimate!

247, let me know a bit closer to the date when you're passing through. I should be here. Threre's a chance of going to CD6 but not likely to the Nats unfortunately.

I thought I had a bit of a drive to Conondale, it's just down the road compared to you lot!

Luke I reckon the Centaurus sounds better being in a higher state of tune and having 18 exhausts!

My ultimate (passenger) ride in any motor vehicle. The length of Darwin airport runway, 10' off the ground, 400+mph. Still give me goose bumps.

Sea Fury eh? Low level pass?  Something like this...

That's at the last Avalon airshow. Yes, the Fury sounded good, but I still really like the Boomerang's howl. Kinda like an MV Augusta versus a single/twin? :D

I have always had a passion for the old WW2/Korean War piston engined jobbies. I have an audio clip here on the PC of an ME109 pass, I have to admit to preferring its sound to the Spitfire. Would really like to see a 109 flying in real life - the nearest I've got is the one here in Canberra in the museum.

Still, there are usually lots of nice things at Avalon - P40s, Mustang, Spitfires etc. Here's a few pics I took there a couple of years ago.

Wow some memories there, and a twinge of jealousy too!

I'm quite partial to some of the later oddballs, MB5 and the CAC15 (or 17?) that never got beyond protype stage. The planes that pushed the prop driven envelope. And how would the Fury have been if the jet engine had not killed off the Bristol Orion engine. It was the big brother to the Centaurus, only 1 1/2" bigger dia but 4040cu in against the Centaurus's 3270! Horse power on a stick!!!!!!!! 8)
