Old style chrome handebars...still available?
« on: February 03, 2009, 10:12:53 pm »
Ok, next piece of the puzzle.
I'm looking for the old type 5" rise chrome bars with the horizontal crossbrace and the short vertical brace under that.
Can these be still purchased anywhere by any chance?

I have looked at the silver bars and also the "Extreme" alloy bars that look a bit more like chrome (Cheap too!) I did ask the local plating joint about re-chroming the originals, but the combination of the quote and the crap job they did re-anodizing the rear rim put paid to that.
At the moment I don't really give a rats............
just put a final coat of clear on the tank, and it's reacted with the blacked out sections  :'(
Seems the 2 pack clear won't go over enamel type paints.

Just a couple of thing I found out with my ongoing resto is that if your rims are corroded ,scratched ,etc getting then re-anodized will not hide any of these imperfections thats why I powder coated my rims.
Another thing before you applied the clear coat to your tank you should have rubbed it back with fine wet and dry sandpaper

Thanks for that.
lc4, I was actually charged quite a whack for re-polishing of the rim when they did it (didn't did it?  ::) and yep sanded tank first....but paint didn't like each other. :) (funny how ya can smile about these things down the track)
evo550, bugger, I've ordered a set of Renthal "Enduro High's" from the shop doing some of the work for me, though last time I asked about the order, I was told he was getting "Dakar" bend at 6" rise??? :-\ but the supplier wasn't getting back to him. Expecting some kind of answer this week or I'll be giving Don a ring me thinks.

the dakar high is just a little bit higher than the desert/vintage bend. i wouldnt say its 6 inches though. i like the dakar high as its a really nice bar for vintage bikes.
