PE GURUS
« on: January 30, 2009, 10:47:16 pm »
PE GURUS, I was reading a topic a while ago where there was mention that a PE 250 (83 Model ) was a rare thing or even mythical. I have stumbled onto a bike that is plated 08/82, my question is, when do Suzuki start production of the superceding model? Yamaha usually release piccies and specs for thier new models in August-ish. Would many other manufacturers do the same? I am not familiar with the PE range but if any-one specialises in post 80 PE's here are the engine and chassis build numbers:

                                  ENGINE - PE 250 207902

                                  FRAME  - PE 250 206890

There seems to be nothing remarkable about this machine at a glance, i.e. twin shock, round headlight, oval number plates/side panels in fact it looks just like an 80/81 model from the pics I have seen. Unfortunately the rear gaurd has been replaced with what looks to be a DT or similar and this is the one feature which seems to differentiate the model (cosmetically) for the untrained eye. Idea's? :-\

send me photos of bike and i will look into the engine/frame numbers.

ok contact this member. lukeb1961  he has the starting engine/frame numbers for 82 Z. i dont think thik we have the end cut off numbers though and know what the last numbers were. i only have the vin number for 82 from some euro suzuki listing. which is weird because my 82 doesnt have a vin number, it has the same old normal engine/frame numbers. my Z frame number starts with 206. something strange went on at suzuki around that time because i thought everything from 81 on was ment to have a VIN number.

what you have would definitely at least be a 82 Z. fork internals and brake pedal will determine/confirm that as its unlikely your bike still has the other various parts unique the the 82 Z and the original Z stickers, and going buy the MFG date its not a 81.

better still contact http://www.kessnersuzuki.com.au/ and they will 100% be able to tell you EXACTLY what it is. there is just not enough info anywhere on the net to ID these late Z models and what there is is only vague at best. just give kessners a call and tell them the frame number and engine number. and they will tell you what it is.  SA had the 250 Z, so its on dealers records here but dont expect to find an eastern states dealer that has data on the Z.

rear fender on the Z is different part number to 80/81 but its only the tail light hole placment and there is 2 extra holes down low where a red reflex reflector is mounted. plus there are 2 extra holes for a bracket which holds the fender to the rear frame loop.

since your bike has an australian compliance plate that almost says for sure its not a mythical 83 D because IF they do exist it would be only in europe or maybe Japan. I did find someone in Finland who claims to have a 83 250 but the photos could not prove it was anything other than a 82 and there was a severe language barrier their making it difficult for me to get any response when i inquired. about the bike.

1982 250 Z  206697 (frame) is the starting number.

I do NOT have the engine number starting range for the 250Z.
I have the 250Z Parts Catalogue, but it does NOT mention it. Will chck fully when I get back to Australia next week.
However, that is certainly the highest PE250 engine number I have heard of.

Leith - can you confirm your 250Z engine is in that 207nnn area?

Luke
