 I'd also like to hear both sides of the VR story   :).    Not just a pretty face it seems,  how do they compare to the Ossa phantom from the same period ?     I've ' almost ' bought three VR 250's at different times, would still be interested if anyone has a really good one for sale  ::).      Cheers

The rear guard is a KN and the front one is a "highwinder" a popular replacement in the day (God knows why!)
I actually have four new highwinders in stock!

No, pictures were taken at his location back east.  We are at 60 degrees and clear here in Arizona.

I asked Martin Belair who worked at the factory for a time and he said he remembered
going over to one of warehouses near the main plant and there was all kinds of projects,
works bikes, experimental bikes all crammed into this one dimly lit warehouse.  Shortly after
Honda took over, he said everything was gone from this warehouse.  Some of it got taken
to the scrappers, and much of it was "liberated" by employee's.  He told me he remembers
seeing employee's jumping on the trucks and tossing off parts to their buddies.  So, who know's
what is stashed away in Spain.  I have only seen a couple semi works bikes and one of the came from
Australia.  A VA 125 that Lyall built, that Jeff Nolan bought.  The other was a Peter Lamppu 63M
that was stock except for a factory done cylinder.

I have some pre 75 and some post 81 pics, but none in the 77/78 time frame.  I saw two Montesa
works riders in 77 and 78.  Raymond Boven in 77' and his bike looked bone stock except for the pipe and shocks.
Was at the 78' US GP and Tarao Suzuki was there.  Only changes I saw was the pipe and shocks and they had
fitted the new FIM required VE style side covers.  I'm sure they didn't use the original tires as well, but other
than that they sure looked stock!

Seems that Lyall was the most active dealer in the world in regards to modifiying the bikes.
The only place that did any kind of that here in the states was Wheelsmith, and he was only
involved with Montesa for a couple of years.  I did see a couple of VA360's with Maico forks!
He did sponsor one rider Jon Derhamer and they did do some work to the motors and build
a pipe (I have a Wheelsmith motor in my VA) but it was no Maico and they lost interest
after awhile.  End of that story...

I Know of 2 montesa one l can buy, and the other is ? may be for sale and this one is mint genuine vr 250, the other is a v75 250 VR., Needs restoring, but have a very good running engine.
