original VR
« on: January 29, 2009, 10:37:24 am »
Here's one you don't see often.  An original (except for the mudguards and petcocks) 74 VR in showroom condition!
He's looking for a pair of original guards to make it complete.

Whats the story on the front plate ? was it an advertising thing at the time ?

IS it easy to get piston for these ? im still thinking of getting a VR to race, if i can find one with a good motor, but people keep putting me off with all there down sides ( yes ross you, or is it you just dont like me  ::)

anyhoooow the latest is the pistons are really hard to get , whats the truth to that ?

With all the talk on the VR's, I thought I'd better pull my good race ready one out & give her a go, as I have never ridden it. Wow! Strong and tractable right off the bottom, huge mid range, falls a little off the top but no problem. More power than my Husky 250 mag but doesn't handle as good and tends to want to wheel stand under full power. Excellent overall and still better than any pre'75 oriental bike I've ridden. I could happily race one with some personal suspension mods & set up. It looks like I will be "sponsoring" another "mate" on the VR this season. Can't wait for the season to begin, looking forward to a heap of fun.
Cheers,
K
