SP/DR fuel tank info
« on: January 19, 2009, 10:02:43 am »
Can anyone offer advise on what fuel tank may be good on an SP/DR370 for Vinduro use? Or better yet, have one for sale?
Plastic or alloy ok and preferably small. Not like a Vesco etc
Thanks.  ;D

clarke do a 10 liter one

this should fit

http://www.clarkemfg.com/cgi-bin/miva?Merchant2/merchant.mv+Screen=PROD&Store_Code=CM&Product_Code=11362xs&Category_Code=suzuki

and this one too

http://www.clarkemfg.com/cgi-bin/miva?Merchant2/merchant.mv+Screen=PROD&Store_Code=CM&Product_Code=11366xs&Category_Code=suzuki

the second one is the same bottom half as the first one but a bit higher.

its ment to hold about 14 liters but it DOES NOT. i have one and its only 12.75 liters (incorrectly advertised)

both have widish tunnels and expand wider near seat area and should go on most suzukis

clarke also have  a few other small ones that i think will fit

seems like every one has been bitten by the vinduro bug eh ;D

Yep.  ;D  I'm extremely limited with having weekends free, so it sounds like a good thing to me to be able to get a decent amount of riding in if I have to travel. Plus still got a usable bike for this sort of thing.
The 10 litre Clarke tank looks great but the price doesn't. It would end up being over $350.00 landed here. Not an option for me at the moment I'm afraid.

try getting it from ebay seller 'enduro shack'

  http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Clarke-Tank-Suzuki-DR-Universal-Tank-2-7-Gallons-1362xs_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp4634Q2ec0Q2em14Q2el1262QQhashZitem250189144241QQitemZ250189144241QQptZMotorcyclesQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

nope even they have same as clarkes prices. they use to be a lot cheaper from them instead of buying from clarke

i know clarke put their prices up.

what colour do you need? a RM 465/500 tank is 9 liters and im pretty sure would fit

most aftermarket tanks are going to be over 10 liters, so maybe you might need to look at a OEM tank off another bike?

i just went and got some 2mm steel to make a small number plate/tail light bracket for my TS but its too bloody hot outside to cut it out to shape

You're right, I'm staying inside today too.  ::)
I don't care what colour it is and am open to anything that isn't too big or expensive. Just as long as it fits.
I know a few guys here have done DRs, so was wondering what they used.

Tony, check with your local wreckers I'm sure the Dr 250 tank will fit , as they fit Dr 400/ 500

theres heaps of those IT tanks down at wreckers in Adelaide Tony. i was after one and had no problems finding one. They fit suzukis well.

go to MR's, Jap dismantlers and Northern M/C wreckers across from Parafield.

When I said I didn't care about the colour................   :D :D
I've still got a bare frame, so I think I just need to throw it in the boot and do the leg work instead of getting you blokes to work it out for me.  ;)
Not sure about an IT tank............. oldfart suggested it may not fit the SP as it has the wider frame at the back than a PE does. But I'll look into it.
Thanks for the input fellas.   ;D

My SP370/RM250C hybrid bike uses the RM250C alloy tank. Where the tank sits is all SP370 frame and the C shaped lugs inside the tank need to be trimmed back shorter to fit, but with that done it is fine. The early plastic PE tanks (C model PE) will not fit as one side (non-exhaust side on PE) hangs too low and hits the head. The PE250B alloy tank fits with the lug trimming mod but is a bit longer than the RM250C alloy tank. I didn't like the look of the PE250B tank.
Haven't tried a plastic RM tank.
For photos of how well it fits, see Vinduro forum http://ozvmx.com/community/index.php?topic=5291.0

wouldnt a plastic PE tank fit with just longer brackets at the front or spacers inbetween 'L' brackets and tank and maybe thicker pads under tank? that would lift tank up a little higher so the left side doesnt hit head
