A new unassembled Wasp framed 500 Triumph with desirable Rickman 41mm forks and magnesium hubs recently changed hands between two forum members for 7k.

I'm assuming it's a solo going by the  B50 engine which wouldn't be an ideal sidecar choice. If it's got 3 wheels.....who knows what it's worth. Probably what he's asking. If it is indeed a solo, it sounds expensive. Wasps are rare but not as desirable as Metisses or Cheneys.

No Alison, B50 Beezas didn't come out until '71 which also detracts from its value. The Wasp frame (solo) is legal for pre '65 but the engine is pre '75. It's an odd miss match of eras that detract from each other. The other Wasp that I mentioned earlier was a legit pre '65 bike due to the '59 era Trumpy engine (although my pedantic old sparring partner Peter Lawson my argue the point over the 41mm Rickman forks). It's definitely pre '68/70 though.

The A 50 is a totally different animal. The A50 is a roady twin that came out in 1962. The B50 is a single that came out in 1971. The A50 engine doesn't like racing very much, they're a bit weak when you breath on them.

be carefull buying any used bikes from just a photo in Just bikes. i have had to deal with 3 bikes recently that people have seen in just bikes and the ads  were attractive, the bikes were supposed to be running and all in good order so they bought the bikes and over to SA they came. Any way i had 1 BSA B50 to get sorted and 1 Triumph badged TR5mx to get running for the new owner. these were sold by a used bike classic bike seller and the B50 was the feature bike they talked up in Just bikes a few issues ago. it definiely was not not as good as the article led you to believe. The TR5MX had a stuffed Boyer ignition box and the seller said it ran! yeah right! This week a Triton arrived that a customer bought from intetate. needs a top end rebuild, fibre glass tank is leaking, but they didnt mention that in ad.

so just beware of buying bikes from ebay/bike trading magazines or any situation where you can not see the bike in real life, as they can often be a can of worms, so dont have too high expectations.

Hi,

I have had a look at this bike and the owner, he has a vary large collection of bsa's and do not question that this is a real nos motor and frame but it is over priced and has not been used.

Chris.
