PE175 Oil tank ?
« on: September 13, 2007, 07:17:20 am »
I'm probably showing my ignorance here ,but I need help identifying a suzuki.
My latest toy is an early PE175 ,well most of one,and it has what appears to be an oil tank in the backbone. I don't remember this on the bike I had back in the late '70's,so how many of these bikes had this ???

Sounds like an oddity or a home made mod. How about a pic or two?

Can't say I know what it is Yuma ??? The only thing I can think of is someone may have tried making an automatic chain oiler and the backbone was the oil res for said oiler or maybe someone decided to carry spare 2 smoke oil in the frame for emergency purposes in situations where only straight fuel may have been available??

send a photo.
No PE ever came with an oil tank. ALL were premix.

where is this "thing" located exactly?
there sure isn't too much vacant space on a PE175...

let us know the frame number. its either a modified PE frame for the above mentioned reasons or its another frame. It it a PE engine you have? any chances of it being a TS engine with oil injection in modified RM/PE frame? therefore requires a tank soemwhere. i have seen TS motors slotted into RM/PE type frames before.

Sorry I have'nt replied for a while, just upgraded from 98 to vista, and still trying to work it out!
The frame and engine are matching numbers for a '79 PE175.It must be a homemade mod but its very well done,it looks original.
Once I work out how to post pics ,I will send some.

i would like to know where the filler hole is because in all my photos there doesnt seem to be any room in front of the fuel tank for a filler like XT/TT. whats actally been stored in there anyway,  spare oil or petrol? kinda seems like a good idea anyway.

Looks like an ER oil filler bung in the top tube, I'd say someone had a TS motor in your frame at some stage probably a TS125 or 185 as they both have offset exhaust outlets that would clear the front tube.

it wouldnt have been a TS185 ER as they have centre port barrels.

Another thought is it could have  once carried a 4 stroke power plant.

not sure id change the PE engine for a TS but a  largish bore 4 stroke engine in a sweet handling little frame like the PE175 would make a nice ride.
