Kingsgrove brickpit minibike photos
« on: December 23, 2008, 05:29:07 pm »
Heres a couple of scans from the book "All about minibikes". The photos were taken at the Kingsgrove Brick pit in Sydney around 1972/3, where the Illawarra Minibike Club ran their meetings. For a lot of kids the brick pits were literally at their back door or just down the road, and was a great place for kids to learn dirt bike skills. The 2 kids going over the jump on the MT1's are Stephen Gall and Lance Turnley, No. 18 is Wayne Boatwright and I think the kid on the Deckson Eagle is Larry or Howard Power, don't know who the chick on the XR is. Wonder how many of the others continued on with dirt bikes??

Yep a St George jersey and army surplus jungle boots were the go back then, and if you were lucky an XR75 with a J&R silencer and wide bars.

Those wwre the days.
I used to live in Narwee, an adjoining suburb.
We used to ride through the vacant land set aside for the now M5 up to the brickpits and return after a great days riding.

Christ, there's a name from the past. I bought my first XR75 from Larry Power in 1974. Both him and Howard were legends of the Merrylands / Granville Minibike club which was exactly where Granville Speedway now sits.

I also have great memories of racing with / against Wayne Boatright and Lance Turnley at many a Club Championship with St George Motorcycle Club in 1975 thru 1981..  Looking back I realise how blessed our childhood was..
Lance, Wayne my brother and I had many a tussle...
