Yamaha CT1 OR DT1 pre-70 race bike.
« on: December 13, 2008, 11:44:28 pm »
The CT1.
Hey, don't laugh - it took my tubby arse to 4th or 5th place of the pre-70 250s at the Coffs VMX Nats, was consistantly one of the three fastest pre-70 HEAVEN bikes this year (I got 4th in the championship, despite not scoring points in the last three rounds), and fared quite well among the pre-75 250s. Oh, and got third place in the trophy race at this year's Crawford River Classic.

Its ultra-easy to ride, and remarkably not too short on grunt. Pretty sure its had the 'lowered engine' frame mod.

Bottom end is in the process of being refreshed (new bearings and seals, etc).

Fitted with alloy bars, Bassani pipe, bigger carby, Webco head, near new sprockets and quality chain, Mulholland shocks, blah blah.

No show pony, but its a clean, presentable race bike.

Spares include piston-port top ends complete with pistons (only one has a bolt through it...), piston port AT1 top end complete with piston, reed valve top ends, bottom ends, new sprockets, swing arm, triple clamps, etc.

I'm thinking $750 for the lot, but will negotiate a lower price if I can keep any or all of the following:
Webco head (will come with standard head instead);
Rear shocks (will come with something to hold the guard off the rear tyre instead).
Alloy bars (will come with steel bars instead).
Taken 'as is' so I don't have to find the time to finish rebuilding the motor (ie: for $750 you get a ready-to-ride bike).

The DT1.

Only one race meet since rebuild (don't ask about results 'cause my one race was with a broken leg from falling off my YZ the day before...).

Piston port barrel has been ported to DT1MX specs. Custom pipe made to DT1MX specs, with some modernisation. 32mm (?) carby from an RT1.

Alloy rims laced into correct hubs.
Chain, sprockets, tyres, etc all in good condition.
Everything just repainted (race quality, not a show bike). Lots of new bolts, etc.
Mullholland rear shocks.
Great fork legs (straight and rust free).
Alloy bars.
Good grips, levers etc.
Spare piston-port motor.

Mid build:

Dodgy photo taken in the dark after I unloaded it back in Septemeber...

today:

Good forks, new spokes, good tyre, etc:

Good tyres, chain and sprocket(s), even if the chain needs a lube:

Looking for $1300, ready to go.

I'm only willing to sell either of these bikes, not both of them. As soon as one of them is sold, then the other is instantly off the market.

Bikes are in Yass NSW.
Pics coming!

(In response to vmx247's now deleted post) Two things have prompted me:
1. I took the moderns out for a run today (first time all year!), and it took me 30 minutes just to get to them....
2. Got an insurance quote after Rob's fire. Got me thinking about which bikes I could live without if they were stolen/burnt, and which would cause me real emotional anguish. And seeing as VMX bikes are things of emotion, I'm not real sure what is the point of having non-collectable, non-emotional bikes cluttering up the place.

And apart from the hassle of fitting 20 bikes into a space that 12 would be comfortable, the simple reality is that with the number of bikes I've got, they're going to sit idle for ages.

Actually, I couldn't help but notice that there's still space to swing a small cat in your shed? I'll bring some bikes up for storage.  ;D

Decent DT1 pics up.
Bars are bent after my stupidly low speed crash at Buladelah... >:( If someone wants to pay the asking price, then I'll put new quality alloy bars on it. Otherwise it can be a negotiation point.

Freaky, round and proud and pre-70 legal (swingarm) all the way.

DG, You should just buy the CT1. Seriously.
But otherwise, you know who to call for AT1 parts. :)

Because you used to need a square swing arm, as it was one of the things that defined a DT1 as being a pre-70 bike (along with the piston port barrel).
Then they opened up the pre-70 regs to allow RT1s (which weren't available pre-70, and never came with square swing arms), so it became pointless to mandate such things for the real DT1s.
