Well I suppose I had better start this project, I have procrastinated long enough.

More to come when I have actually done something  ;D ;D ;D

G'day Cyclegod is the frame a TM 125 and my main question is the seat in your photo what is it off and would it fit a 73 TS185 frame as I  have a RM50 seat but feel it is to small for the 185 project. jimson

Whats the swingarm  off mate?

Genuine NOS DG swingarm for the TM125
Genuine Tm125 steel seat with new foam and cover from vintage suzuki

Frame is 1974 TM125 (I only have to move one lower engine mount to fit the 185 engine in)

I love it God! And I'm looking forward to more photos.

I saw the first one of these conversions in about 1975 or 6 parked outside Wgton motorcycle centre. Not long after that my mate with a TS185 wanted more "peaky" type power so we swaped motors and pipes. He seemed happy and I certainly was!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm piecing together my TM125 and I tried to get two of everything so I can make a start on the TM185.
From the posts in the Vinduro thread it looks like there's a few of these around. I'm sticking with the std motor and pipe as I did in the 70's. One of these should be ok in pre75 250 VMX as well.

I'm quite jealous as I won't get much done on mine til after Xmass.

By the way you don't have a spare seat or basee do you? or a TM rear rim, the lipless one with the "eyebrows" around the spoke nipple sockets?

Cheers

Brent

I sold all my non essential spares as a big job lot back in July ( http://ozvmx.com/community/index.php?topic=3135.0 )

I don't have a spare seat or base and I have no wheels either (I do have a twin leading shoe hub from a GT185 that uses the same shoes as a TS250 to try out  ;D ;D)

As an alternative you coul try the PE175 seat from the 78 and 79 models the look pretty much identical except for an unboltable front mounting bracket. Here's two...

hell i will try and find a photo of mine.....still i had youth, no money and stupidity on my side when I built it.

THEN 20 years later it started first kick on whatever was lurking in the tank and punished me by jamming at full throttle between a tree and the back fence.  ::)

Anyway you will need to alter the lower back mount, whip up some front engine plates and you are done. I finished mine off by welding washers on the end of the foot pegs for that non slip works look.

Does anyone know if TM125 gearset will go in TS185 cases OK?
Its a project I've been mulling over too.
Take bore out 2mm, have 'RA' 200 (replica!)

The output shaft is the same part number as the TM, the end of the 185 input shaft, where the gears reside, is of identical dimensions to the TM shaft too. I'm running a RM125M gear-set on the 185 shafts with the straight cut primary and basket (NOS) from the RM too. I'm also using the TS185A side cases as they resemble the standard TM type.

Thanks C,

I was wondering about that clutch cover too - if it was Ts185A or TM125. You 'read my mind'.

The gearboxes are similiar but a bit diffrent on i think its 1st or second , as its a friction fit  on the shaft that can and does loosen the gears if put under extreme loads or too many neddies are coaxed from the engine., gears are the same shaft size though

Time for an update...

Just received a WEBCO head and a set of engine cases for mocking up the frame for welding the new engine mounts. I have also found a NOS 175cc hop-up kit cylinder to make things interesting. When the mounts are done I will powder coat the frame and fit all that I can before posting some update pics so stay tuned and patient.
