looks impressive so far CG but excusing my deadset lack of TS185 knowledge I didn't think the TM ignitions bolted up to the 185's? yes no??

There needs to be an adaptor plate made for the three holes in the 185 case, stator plates I think are the same outside diameter with the top hole in the same position BTDC (so only two holes need countersinking in the plate and one threaded hole for the TM stator bottom hole), the rotor already fits and is in the same position as the 125.
I intend a really serious think about the whole process I'm doing (measure twice cut once etc) to make sure no mistakes creep in unexpectedly, I'm toying with the idea of bolting on a RM125S intake plate and manifold so I can run a 32mm carb so lots to think about but getting the frame done so I can at least start bolting stuff on is the first priority.

It was so they could run in the 175cc class against Yamaha CT1-MX's/ MX175's etc before it became defunct as an MX class and was used for enduro's instead, just like the 350 class in GP.

On a side note, with regard to the kit cylinder, it runs a 1mm thicker liner in a standard TS185 cylinder casting (different porting specs obviously) so it can be bored up to 4mm oversize using PE pistons from 62mm-64mm and then TS185 pistons from 64mm-66mm so it will have a long racing life  ;D ;D ;D

Doc, my mate is building one of these with the hop-up kit - can you help with this question? Many thanks.

Wondering if anyone can help with specifications for the carburetor, jetting and ignition timing. Also would like to find out if the kit had a different CDI box and stator assembly to the standard one. Cheers Francis

I saw a full kit on eBay some years ago and it had a inner rotor ignition and cdi similar to the TM.

Just found that the TM and TS stator plates have a different diameter (only by 5mm) but the good news is that the mounting hole postions are at different angles so the TM mount holes in the adaptor plate won't be obstructed by any of the castings for the standard TS plate.

Time for a wee update, the ignition probs are well and truly solved. A stock TM250 stator and flywheel is a bolt on fit and I will use a 125 CDI. The 175 kit piston is nothing more than a 1mm oversize GT550 piston, so getting rings was easy  ;D. If I decide to Vinduro this bike a TF125 12 litre tank will fit straight on with no seat fouling issues. With parts already found and bought everything inside the crankcases and clutch cover will be N.O.S. Plus I have the makings of a spare TM125 engine as an alternative to the 185.

I've finally found some time to work on mine.

The frame I started with has no lower rear engine mount so that's the first thing to do. I'm thinking of lowering the front of the motor as I remember my first one had clearence problems between the head and the fuel tap. Also the pipe sat very high, touching the tank in fact. I seem to remember the motor sitting very front high.

The top rear engine mount is fine and three of four holes match on the engine plates. I will make larger 4 hole versions before I ride it!

Has anyone tried to lower the front of the motor? I may have to "massage" the frame to clear the drain plug as this sticks down a fair way.

Hopefully I'll have some piccies after the weekend.

Time for an update..... especially when you consider that I started this thread in NOV 2008

Front engine mount has been fabricated, what to do about the rear mount has been decided and I am now only missing 3 parts to complete the engine.

Good to see you're back on the job God.
Mine has stalled due to lack of time but I have the engine mounted. Looking at your front mounts I'm guessing you've used the top rear mount and moved the lower rear one back? My front mounts look much like yours and your engine seems to sit about the same as mine.
Mine will be priamarily a Vinduro mount but should be fun in pre75-250 VMX. I've got a yellow PP headlight/ number plate and I'll make a snail pipe, How 70's is that?? ;)

Sounds cool, mine will probably get one or two MX runs with my mate Marc riding it before I sell it to someone to fund a roadie project.

My rear lower mount is the standard TM left mount (slotted) and a new right mount (unslotted), when I drop the engine into the frame  you can't get the bolt in so its fitted to the motor with the left hand side sticking out. Once it is in the frame the bolt slides into the right mount and then the nut and washers go on. The motor is definitly dropped at the front so that the kit pipe can fit into the exhaust port, if I had to make a pipe I would not have bothered modifying the rear mount at all.

I plan to work on it this weekend if it's not too hot and maybe I will get it to the powder coates at the same time I'm doing the zinc plating. I will post some pics as I go to keep things updated.
