Wanted 1978 DS80C Suzuki Parts
« on: November 10, 2008, 10:40:56 pm »
Another project, I'm in need of a swingarm, top triple clamp, airbox, oil tank and side covers for a '78 DS80C. Same as the bike in the pic and pretty easily recognizable as it's not yellow! :D any condition basically and any help appreciated. Thanks

oh , a seat , head light and tail light would be nice too but that's really pushing my luck ::)

hmmm..quite an ugly little bike really now that i look at it properly..might have to do something about that fuel tank too  ;D

there will be tail light on ebay. i will find you one now.......

heres the light. you just need to cut a rubber flap. you also get the bonus of a brake light with this one! uses 2 6 volt festoon bulbd which can be tricky to find sometimes .you possibly building a mini vinduro bike??

these tail light are always on ebay. but this one is expensive!!!! there must be some cheaper ones. i will see what i can find.

head light will be same as DR370 i reckon....yes confirmed.

so there you go, lights are not the problem. there should be some more cheaper tail lights too. i always see those tail lights for around $20. they are same base/lens as 77-79 PE's

the sidecovers i have also seen on ebay before so just keep checking. good luck!

late edition

whole bike.....not sure if its exact 78 though.

thanks Leith, yes it will be a mini enduro but like always it will be done supercheap and save the pennies for the real bikes ;) A manual I don't need as I could assemble the thing blindfolded 8) Been toying with this type motor and chassis since their inception in '77 in the guise of the RM80B. I don't wish to buy from the US at present due to the poor $ and the bike on ebay has been there a loooong time and it's way way way overpriced for the peice of crap it is. All the DS80's up to current share the same 5 speed motors and gear ratios as the early RM80 albeit with minor changes, I've a heap of bits for that model. The headlight on this Aussie model was round. The square light was the US model but being difficult I prefer the look of the round. I'll have a hunt around for a cheapy chinese chrome aftermarket type I think and simply paint it black. She'll be a goer as I have a complete brand spanking new RM80X top end looking for a home and it'll slip straight on so long as I use the RM exhaust. I'll keep the smaller wheels and retain the DS looks but it will fit the longer RM80B front end and rear suspension. I have plans but as always I now have little time heading into the silly season. I'll keep collecting bits and will have a stab at the inlet boot as that I will need that item regardless and even with $10 post it would still be cheap. I'd like a scan of the brochure if possible. Cheers.  btw, I sold a nos tail light for one of these about a year ago..I would never need it! jeez I hate that!  ::)

Thanks Mick that'd be nice if you have got the little tail light. I think I mentioned in another thread I was toying with the idea of building a PE80. I'll have to drag out everything and see what I have as I'm now thinking I should use the larger 16" and 14" 80 size wheels if I'm to build the motor to RM specs. I have a picture of the dunger as I bought it but you really don't wanna see it..trust me ;) :D she'll be nice when done. Another reason I wanted the round headlight Leith, a mini PE250B wouldn't look right with a square light ;) I can forget the sidecovers in the wanted list above too, they look pox so I'll go rm80 there too. As you can probably guess I never liked the early DS80's. Half the looks, half the performance and half the suspension of the RM80 all for same money just didn't make sense back then, actually it still doesn't  :P

i reckon that would be a nice bike. a little PE80. are you going to put a front number plate on it above the headlight? that would make it look like a PE even more. there were a few guys on the PE forum that were thinking of do as you are a while back.

is it just me or is parts of that photo purple?

there was a nos 250 B plate that went pretty cheaply the other week for about $60 US but i think it would be a bit big for on the 80? there was also a nos 78 onwards plate that went for $220US ::)

there are a couple ok reproductions of the 78 onwards plate. one from DC's (correct colour now) and the other from Pure enduro france. (fibre glass) i think Vintage Plastics over here does them as well but his is a real bright yellow. there is also another place called prix historic fibreglass in australia who has the front plates in fibre glass too. Another cheap way is to buy a universal cemoto or maier yellow oval and cut out the curve for headlight. also the alloy oval that Speed and Sport sell is exactly the same shape as the PE plates and has the rolled edge. all you would need to do with that is cut the curve and paint it yellow and it would be hard to know its not alloy.

Leith I do have someone lined up local that makes repro fidreglass whatever you like..he actually does a pretty good job and for hard to get items I do plan to make use of his services. Rear RL guard for example he's already got the mould done so this'll be my first purchase from him when I save a few $ ;)
CG, had thought of TS100 headlight or a KX450ag job I have since it's only relatively small. Think I'll need to concentrate on getting things together a little before I worry too much but I was putting the feelers out as one never knows what's lurking in good ol' Oz. Is that RM80C yours?? Bloody nice if it is! 8) I've got my B below. Unfortunately while the '78 C went 6 speed the B model and all the DS80's thereafter retained the '77 model 5 speed.  Only thing missing in the shot below was the kickstarter. I have it but I don't use it as it causes internal case damage over a period of time. If you want to ride it bump starting is the preferred method ;)

I may not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it.
