what year do yo want.as pre 75 mx and yz are very different.

I'm after the one that a RT1 engine will fit in and still be legal for pre 75

RT1 ENGINE piston port no reed valve is pre 70 legal
rt2 rt3 have reed valve so they are pre 75 but you would be better off with a dt360a/dt250a same frame as the mx360/250a.better bike than the rt2 or rt3

Looks like I won't be finding a YZ / MX frame, didn't realise they were so hard to come by....

Mick,
if you're after a frame that'll take the RT1/2/3 motor, your choices are,
RT1/2/3 frame
YZ250/360a frame
YZ250/360b frame/monoshock
the RT won't bolt straight into a DT or MX as the engine mounts will be different.
if you've got the RT engine and are keen to build it into an early mx'er, i'd be looking to find a piston port {non-reed} barrel and stick it into the RT frame and set it up for pre~70.
or, just sell the motor to me real cheep

yeah Vandy I've got the whole bike, was just trying to sort out a better frame without doing the RT frame lowering mod, thought it might be easier just to get a better frame.
But its looking like I'll just get it going with the stock frame and see what its like, might do the frame mod down the track....

Already got the piston port barrel, yz ignition, pipe etc etc

Ditto the frames, what Vandy said . With the DT/MX frame only the top rear mount will line up. All the others need some mods to line up. Not that difficult but will require some welding and fabrication.

Or you could hang out for one of these ...

That's pretty much what I'm going to build after the current projects are done. I bought a MK2 version of a Rickman Zundapp which is almost the same frame as the above DT1 Metisse frame. The Mk2 is made from 25mm tube rather than the 22mm of the MK1. I paid $40 for it. I've been telling everyone that these Rickmans are the best deal on the net for months but I don't think anybody else has picked up on it. The're not legal for pre '70 but wiould make a cool pre '75 bike.

This is my frame which I picked it up last weekend. The nickel plating is perfect. These things are always coming up on eBay.

May be in 12 months time when the current lot is done and dusted. . That Green Rickman above sure looks pruddy though. I'll keep those pixies as inspiration, put them up on the desksaver occasionally.

That's a pity Graeme. I would have bid on it myself but didn't want to get in your way. Not to worry, I've already got one but I've got an idea for another Frankenbike project. Rickman Maico has a neat ring to it. $28 is a steal.
That particular Rickman frame was even more desirable as it was in Riverside California, only a $20 courier trip to the Long Beach shipping depot. Many fall into the trap of buying a bike or part situated in Buttplug, Idaho and don't realise it's a $500 internal shipment to the West Coast for overseas shipping. My advice is to always factor in the internal shipping and try and buy on the West coast or at least from close states like California, Utah, Nevada or Arizona. If you aren't sure, check a map.

Sorry Firko. I PM'd Mick but didn't know you were interested . I noted the location as you did and I was sorely tested but ultimately I whimped out mainly because it didn't have the swinger with it .

There will be other opportunities .

But it a good thing this self discipline .
