Baked enamel help.
« on: October 22, 2008, 05:02:34 pm »
I am going to spray a set of cast alloy hubs, whats the procedure to baking enamel?
As bare metal do I need to bake primer first or prime, paint then bake?
What temp, How long?
Someone's gotta know.

If you are painting with spray-cans then warm them a bucket of  warm water, primer then, top coat then, bake in an oven @ 100-110 celcius. This is what I did on my YZ hubs and they turned out great.

How long should they be baked?
Should they go into the oven straight after final coat,or should they be left to dry for some time?
Thanks for your help so far.

Sorry, leave them in the oven for 1 hour after the paint has "flash-dried" and is just touchable. The advantage of baking is that the arromatic emulsifing agents (I hope thats right) in the paint are cooked off quicker giving a harder finish more rapidly.

the benefits of baking?
some of my "unbaked" hubs are very difficult to keep clean. the dirt kinda sticks to em,
while my "baked" hubs wash up pretty good.
they both look the same when freshly painted.
septone products recommends 200c for around 30mins
