Anybody please could tell me how to stop many of my old photos from turning red and then fading, or just fading away? I already have them in "acid free folders. Is sad to see them go even more so as I lost about 12 full albums from the late 60 and 70s in a fire.

Sunlight is the biggest killer.
So I guess the answer is to stop looking at them...........  ;D
Some of the 'acid free' albums I've heard of, are acid free at all. So maybe that's a problem too.
I would suggest if you come over in December, bring them and we'll scan them to CD.
Not the best quality scanning prints, but better than losing them altogether.

what are acid free envelopes? ive got some documents i want to preserve. Are those plastic sleeves you get from the newsagent with the white strip and holes down the side for 2 or 3 ring folders acid free? can i get similar clear plastic sleeves that are acid free?

even the best preservation methods will not keep them going forever - I think the best Kodak papers and Inks have a finite life that is a lot shorter than you would expect!!!

Your local friendly, been there for years,know there stuff picture framer will help you out with acid free paper,also used in wedding memorabilia/baby photos/booties etc  ;D

ps don't buy made in china

ive got some magazine articles in clear sleeves in a 3 ring folder. i will scan them but would like to keep all the originals in good condition and not deteriorate any more. so if there is some sort of better clear sleeves i can use than that may be the go.
