TS250 plated bore.
« on: November 24, 2022, 02:40:18 pm »
Got a mystery barrel here from a TS250 that is plated from the factory. Any idea on what year it would be so we can track down a piston. It has 2 extra transfer ports compared to most I've seen and would need a piston with the ring pegs further out than an iron bore version. The owner thinks it is a 1976 model.

Does it have the 'case reed'?

That would be correct for a 76 A model. extra transfers and plated bore piston port.  First of the black painted engines. IMHO the best  model to have .

No reed. Not sure if it was black to start with as it has been vapor blasted. The fins on the head are straight front to back but with cut away for a right side up pipe.

Did they have a different piston to previous models? Wiseco list the same piston from 73-81 but the ring pegs would put the ring ends into extra transfer ports.

Good eyes, I never believe the one size fits all and yes they did use a different piston 12110-30001 with cast rings Part Number 12140-30600 the last 2 digits of suzuki numbers  or an additional suffix denote OS.  Great engine 1 year only developed for ISDT but they soon had the RM sorted and used that engine in the PE. The following TS models were all reed engines and used chrome rings and steel bores.

Certainly looks like that one except the Ebay one is iron bore or it has had a sleeve fitted.

When I look up 12110-30001 it shows that number suiting a range of models.

There are even oversize versions which don't work in a plated cylinder.
The other possibility is that when it superseded from 12110-30000 they moved the ring pegs out to suit the exrta transfers of the new cylinder and then decided it would be ok in the old ones as well. Or they thought it would work ok with the ring end dropping into the port. There are some of the later pistons on Ebay so we may be able to get them to measure the peg positions.
The owner of the bike bought it as a basket case and doesn't have the original piston to measure but sent the barrel to me to fit a sleeve ne had got from Vintco which is meant to fit all from TS, TM to RL from 73 to 81 but it is nothing like any of the early versions.

Generic parts stores often dont tell the full story. try this page for correct info. I am unsure if the newer pistons have different pin positions
that also work in older piston ports. There were many different original versions https://www.suzukiparts.co.uk/shop/online-store/suzuki-parts-finder/ts/ts250/k-l-m-a-b-1973_1977.htm#!ts250kcrankshaft

The owner contacted an Ebay seller who has the 12110-30001 piston and it's ring pegs are 43mm apart where as the early TM250 and aftermarket Wiseco are 32mm apart so I'd assume that is what changed with the supersession. I'm pretty sure that would still work in the early barrels as well.

the ts250A ive got has a earlier barrel and head on it but since ive never lifted it off i couldnt say how well the transfers match up on it but looking at the pics in the parts list there not too far out
