cheap tyre changing stand

I had to change a few tyres this arvo and wasn't looking forward to the bending over.

I looked for an easier way and ended up cutting the end out of a 60L drum.
I then cut one sidewall out of a 10" car tyre so it just fitted over the open end and hey presto, a tyre changing stand. It made things a lot easier (I had 7 tyre changes to do) but was still a little low.
I sat the whole thing on a milk crate and bolted it on. Now it sits at waist height and makes changing tyres a breeze. An 18" rim fits snugly over the car tyre and a 21 moves around a bit but it's not a problem.

Yes a tyre machine would be nice or just take it to the bike shop but this is Sunday in Darwin so the world had taken a break, for the kiwi's I'd compare it to Taihape on a sunday.

And the side benifit is a handy rubbish tin in between tyre jobs!

I hate tyre, even on a tyre machine i either break a spoke or pinch the tube.

In 45years of changing motorcycle or pushbike tyres , bothered to learn how learn when I was about six years old, I cannot recall breaking any spokes!!! Freaky stop using a blunt shovel to remove tyre and most definitely stop using the sledge hammer to reinstate the buggers.  Still granted it is a prick of a job.............

I dunno I've changing tyres down pat pretty much lately (excepting 6ply Trelleborgs, but you can ride with those flat anyway! ) I find it more of a chore removing and refitting the wheels and that greasy dang chain I need to change the tyres at floor height as I need to use all my miniscule weight at times to break the beads and swing off the lever and such I've a nice little story about a tyre lever, a chin and several stitches I can still see the horrified look on my bro's face as the lever smacked him square on the chin..big ouch!  same bro who somehow managed whilst swinging a claw hammer to hook the claw bit to his scalp! I won't go into the rest of the details only to say it was a bit noisy and messy

Tim what i ment to say is its usually on the tyre machine i stuff up, the once a month i use it i forget the jaws come in , stomp on the wrong rotation pedal and tear the bead, or usually the lever flies off into the air ( last time i missed a 05 xvs 1100 by MM's, i have learnt i should leave it to the apprentice who pulls 5 tires off a week, my pride was holding me back and im too retarded to do it by hand.    So now the young fellow hits me up for a icE COFFEE EVERY TIIME I GO IN WITH A TYRE.   But its worth it for the pain i can unleash as a Noob with no idea.

Sorry for the delay 250H, I fianally got the camera to cooperate.
The pic might be a bit small but it will have to do. I did cut some grooves in the corners of the milk crate where the rim of the drum sits, stops it moving around. I did bolt it on in the end.
