Two Maico 490's

First off a thanks to Kenneth for allowing me to post this.

I am in Perth WA and have two Maico 490's. One is a 1983 MX 490 Spider and the other a 1984 Super Cross 490.

I used the 83 model for enduros but fitted it with a wide ratio 5 speed USA sand spider gearbox but I still have the original 4 speed.  It is also fitted with Honda CR500 front forks so as to have a front disc brake along with a custom rear disc I made using a Suzuki Quadracer caliper with a CR500 rear disc wheel.  These additions were bolt ons and I have the original parts.

This bike has an awesome history being the first 1983 model imported into Australia by Ross King for use by Geoff Ballard when he rode for Ross and Maico.    Geoff  used it in several enduros and also in a Finke Desert Race.   He also rode it in the 1983 Australian 4 Day Enduro Championship held in Bunbury, WA.  I subsequently brought it from Ross as it saved him shipping it back East.  I also have the Australian Dirt Bike magazine that did a feature article on it. 

The 12th pic on this page shows Geoff on this bike at the 4 day.  I started after him on my 1982 Alpha1 and gave him fuel to get going again.

I also have a 1984 SC 490 that I brought later for possible spares use and stripped it for storage purposes although I think from what I can now see the alloy rear swingarm has water damage. 
 
I previously had a 1982 490 Alpha1 and also probably still have a few parts for that model.

I last rode the 83 in 1989 when I did one small stage of an enduro for nostalgia reasons and its been parked ever since.

Although I haven't made a definitive decision as to whether to sell these bikes I could be tempted with a realistic offer for both bikes as a single sale. 

I could send them interstate at buyers cost if required.

Your the Seller, you decide the price and post it up. you must have an idea of what you want for them, state what the
price is not "realistic offer".
then if someone considers this for them they approach you and a sale is made.

its not for sale without a price posted by the seller.

its not a silent auction.

Hoony , I found over the years that transaction of 3+4 digit common bikes use a different approach compared to rare bikes with 5+6 digits value. Not all buyers want to make it public what they bought and how much for . Just saying... Now that we have entered the after corona era , things will all be different again. The way we deal , what we really need , how we pay for it  and very important, where the proceeds go .In the end , bikes are worth what you can sell them for and not what you think they are worth, or the money you spent on them.I am sure if you PM John and have a chat to him , and he will give you figure to chew on it .

If I can also again point out that having ridden many enduros on the 83 I have a great attachment to it as it is an awesome bike, hence my comments that I was not super keen on selling it along with the 84.

However, for some reason I had a brain fart and decided to post the above only on the basis that if I received an offer that was hard to refuse they would go.

To some extent I am now thankful that this has not eventuated so they will remain in my shed and their possible sale is now withdrawn.

Yeah thanks mate.  I've since found them along with a vintage MX club in WA which would allow personal inspection etc. 

If and when I make this decision again what I do need to do is get everything together so I can properly describe it all.

Bloke is a time waster and a rude tosser.
There needs to be a rule here that a firm price be posted; no exceptions.
Not much in bike buy land more annoying than being played of against a second or third interested or imaginary party.
