Suzuki ‘84/‘85 RM250 frame
« on: March 19, 2020, 10:44:48 am »
Wanted to buy an ‘84/‘85 RM250 frame for a project . Probably will need an airbox , seat and triple clamps as well . I already have a swingarm , shock and linkages / strut arms .
It doesn’t really matter if the lower frame tubes are rusted , because it is for a hybrid build that I am scheming and probably would prefer not to cut up a real good frame . Also I am looking for an ‘84 CR500 Honda motor , or an ‘83/‘84 KX500 motor .
I want to have a big bore MXer with a Full Floater rear end , but prefer the look of the ‘84 RM250 , which has a single frame down tube that splits into two , to suit a centre port exhaust motor . The RM465/500 motors have a side exit exhaust .
Has anyone else built a hybrid project bike like this ? I did hear of a US bike shop owner that grafted a Full Floater rear end onto an ‘82 Maico 490 , but haven’t seen any pictures of it .

It is feasible to home brew a center port RM465/500 cylinder if that was your desired feature and use the original frame with a split down tube

Probably pick up some grunt: those RM cylinders have a pretty awful exhaust port compared to a Honda.
If you love it, lube it.

I have some pictures that I pinched from the MXTRAX.UK forum a while back , of a Heron Suzuki RM500 with a centreport exhaust cylinder , in an ‘84 RM250 frame . Apparently they made about 13 bikes like this in total . But I have ridden an RM500 Suzuki in the past and found it a bit more mellow than the Maico 490 , CR 480 , CR500 , KX500 , and Husky 500s that I am used to . That’s why I thought an air cooled CR or KX500 motor might be a better option than modifying an RM 500 to centre port exhaust .
I sort of drifted away from the OZVMX forum after the shutdown of Village Photos and then the cost of Photobucket , wiped out all my posted images . I know that there are now other options available to post images and I will have to find the time to work out how to do it .

Do a search on heare of FB for 'Herron suzuki'. It was a conversion of RM500 into RM250 frame. The barrel needs to be converted to  center port. A guy in USA made his own copy of Herron Suzuki bike a few years ago.
Wanted - 1978 TS185 frame or frame&motor. Frame # TS1852-24007 up to TS1852-39022

I now have an RM frame . Just need to find a big bore motor that will suit  . No hurry though , as this project has to get on the end of the list , and it’s a very long list .
