'TURN BACK TIME'

We're excited, in fact very excited, to bring you the details of this year's VMX Magazine Classic Dirt 16 event. It's a brand new venue with rolling green hills and you'll be riding on brand new, natural terrain tracks, freshly pegged out on the paddock, just like the old days! Talk about turning back time.

There'll be the usual two MX tracks (twin shock and Pre '95), a vinduro loop in some brilliant countryside, a grass track and a trials area. There's a massive shed on site that will house lots of activities over the weekend plus there'll be all the usual catering, trade stands and toilet/shower facilities for camping.

Where is this fantastic venue? It's just 20 minutes north of Kyogle in NSW yet it is only two hours or so from the Gold Coast or Brisbane. Of course, it's also now more convenient for those from NSW and VIC. There's easy access from the main road (Summerland Way).

What else? We'll have all the usual activites such as Trivia with loads of giveaways, Show and Shine on the Sunday, live music, plus, we'll be turning back time to the very first VMX Magazine Classic Dirt event by having a Legends Charity Auction on the Saturday, prior to the Trivia. There'll be loads of items to bid on from lots of Legends and every cent raised will go to the Perry Cross Spinal Research Foundation.

Plus, as well as the usual Aussie dirt bike legends who attend the event, we'll have a restoration guru on hand over the weekend, none other than the master restorer Joe Abbate (courtesy of BGK Motor Cycle Restorations 0415342283) from the USA. Joe will be holding Q&A sessions and giving demonstrations on both Friday and Saturday.

Check out these sneak preview photos and just imagine some motocross tracks pegged out or a vinduro loop passing through this beautiful countryside.

Not only that but we're going back to our traditional date - the June long weekend, a date used by VMX Magazine Classic Dirt for years and years. So mark it on your calendar - June 5-7 2020.

Entries are open from this Saturday the 18th of January on Ridernet for the same price as the last few years - $135 for a rider (plus Rec Licence if required) and $20 for a spectator. As always, camping is free. That's the only two prices, couldn't be simpler.

Let's turn back time at VMX Magazine Classic Dirt 16. No politics, no racing, just natural terrain at its best!

Please share and tag your mates, they won't want to miss out.

And Please forgive me as I cant Spell for Shit ...
And I have very Bad Gramer ...too I been told ......

If it is the original 540  he has , it is a VMC . I air freighted that complete bike in for him in 86. I have a look for some water pump covers . There is still a bit of 540 stuff up in the loft somewhere . But dont hold your breath , we went trough 2 covers in one year .565.30.001.300 was the part number

must be a VMC then, i always though it was an EML.

was the other one (the one he raced in Europe in 1987 and then brought back) a VMC as well?

was it a Swiss guy that stroked the cranks to punch them out to 540cc, great engine as i remember it very grunty.

he is ok for a cover, Dukey has one being delivered today (he messaged me).

Russell Brown in QLD has casted up for that model and had 2 in stock.

They are both VMC . They were cheaper and a few kg lighter than EML in 86. (we were wrong ) ) . In 87 we went through two VMC frames for the season .....Yes the 540 was a fantastic engine , lots of grunt  and they lived forever . Later in 1988 KTM in Mattighofen started making them in series as well for the solos ( with the 5 speed box) . Later the 565, 580 and 620 followed , but that became too much for the bottom end . Say hello to Robert from me , havent seen him for 25 years .
