Looking for ER185 Advice

After oil pump to throttle calibration setting?
Running TTS  oil tank, so probably back it off a little being semi synthetic?

Correct spark plug?

Blowing heaps of smoke... heaps and fouling plugs...
Thought I should eliminate possibilities by first making sure adjustment is correct,  given the oil pump adjuster is out/up as far as can go.

The smoke is a concern as the pump doesnt push that much out. Check your gearbox oil for  discoloration/aeration and level. may look milky. Gearbox oil also stinks when its burnt,
 Id also be burning out the pipe too as old sludgy crap will start to burn  once she gets a few RPM. Drop the baffle out and see how oily it is

 Settings are easy, there is a line on the body of the pump and one on the arm. Line them up at full throttle You can even wind the pump full on with no real issue as its still only a dribble. Some guys set the pump full on and dont run a split cable The Main line receives a constant flow and only the intake port is variable. Many years ago I calculate the mix to vary from 33-50:1 and I always run TTS in a 185.

yeah Pokey's right about the crank seal on the gearbox side and another place the gearbox oil can enter is via the centre case gasket which is a bigger job to do, while your in there replace the kick start pawl

give it a good long run down a road in top to really clean the pipe out (subject to the mains seals being ok)

you havent over oiled the airfilter? as above the oil pump is usually ok. havent put premix in the tank?? just a few passing observations.... if it hasnt run for a while it may take some clearing out of settled oil in the crank. good luck

Bugger Mick. Thats a split the box job and may as well do both seals and centre gasket while your in there. Always thought it funny how the ER125 didnt run a centre gasket but the ER185 did. Not real funny for you guys though. Gimmee a yell if you cant find a manual.

Ok,  thanks Pokey... good to know in advance that the crank seal must be on the inside and therefore inaccessible while engine is still in the bike....

I am sure I have an ER workshop manual on one of the computers and I can find everything else. I did find the next best thing though, a  late model ER185 series Parts catalogue  that has all the numbers and exploded diagrams  I can send that  If you like.
