Hi Everyone,

I'm getting close to finishing a '82 CT110 as a commuter.
In the process, a lot of parts are left over and the grandkids have developed a big interest in trials bike riding. They are riding dirt bikes VERY competently and confidently already.
So when I came across a few pics of CT90 and CT110 trials builds, the penny dropped. The grandkids are very excited to be able to work with me building this.
This is the kind of thing we are going to aim at - or improve on:

Just my opinion but I think you are an excellent Grandparent! Trials will teach them a whole range of life skills and when they are a little more mature, they will be very grateful!

Are there any Professional Riders/Racers that have a background in Trials?

Most of the extreme enduro guys have been high level trials riders, think Kevin Schwantz was Texas champion before taking up road racing

I met Gary McCoy a few weeks back. He has a cafe in the middle of nowhere otherwise called Cooyar. He does the odd school at Morgan Park but he does do off road courses at his property and.. he is an was into Trials in Europe. No one can slide a bike better than he can.

They are here on their MX bikes most weekends..... but they keep building trials-type hurdles with logs and pallets and riding up and down the dam embankments and stairs in the gardens... even doing tight circles on top of the water tank (partially in-ground).
In any case, the idea is NOT to spend too many of grandpa's $s
Love the look of the TLM50! I didn't know they made that.
The 9 year old also really likes my SL70 I restored a few years ago. I let them ride that a bit, seeing they have never come off ... and they know what it's worth Good thing there is nothing I can't fix on that should they ever drop it - fingers crossed....

Aussie road racer Steve Martin started of riding trials as a junior before he started road racing, he did well in superbikes and has won a few Endurance racing world championships, so it didn't hurt him.

Have you seen the Mini Otter on the BSAOTTER page ? lots of good stuff and right up your alley as far as project with the grandkids

PS based on a 125 china motor but CT Same either way what a better way for the kids to learn

Yep, I'd already found those links. Lots of ideas and info there.
We do actually have a Lifan 125 engine with clutch here as well (needs 2nd gear fixed). But the Honda will probably be the first engine we try.
No progress as yet, but collecting bits and ideas. Oh, I did make the top of the in-frame tank the other day. It gives it a bit of a more modern look and strengthens the CT backbone. Not welded on yet, in case I have to adjust the headstock angle. I can't measure that until we get wheels and suspension trial fitted.
I'll keep this thread going - just don't hold your breath waiting for updates
