Honda CR125 Top end interchangeability
« on: January 22, 2019, 11:36:26 am »
Guys/Gals, I would normally search sites such as partzilla for interchangeable part numbers to seek the answer to the following question myself, however, my research has come up short.

Has anyone knowledge of a known Bolt on top end substitute for a 1992 CR125. For example do 1991 - 1993 use a cylinder assembly (inc power valves etc;) that will bolt up and work on the 1992 CR125 Bottom end?

I have seen ads for cylinders that state "fits 1991-1995 CR125" is there truth to this or not?

Usually I would check which parts are used on other year models and make a judgement based on say base gasket interchangeability indicates the same stud pattern on models using the same gasket for example, Piston interchangeability suggest the bore and stroke are the same one year to the next and so on.

In this case the part is discontinued and no supplementary information is available, so I need first hand Honda expert experience before I pony up for a barrel/top end that will not work with what I have.

Cheers

Your already onto the checking of head and base gaskets but the other one to consider are read valve gaskets and exhaust flanges but you always have to wonder if the part numbers are correct as there are a lot of common mistakes in the many web sites and Zedder etc.

It does look like though that the power valve mechanisms seem to be the same over a few years but the power valves themselves are one year only along with the cylinder suggests to me that they were more likely changing the porting specs more than a major revamp.

Kawasaki did this also in the late 80’s and early 90’s, they often changed the port tracts and the scallop shape in the power valve otherwise  the cylinders were the same.

I have no knowledge of your model but I would assume you could use a different year if you get the matching power valves to suit.
Beware though, my advice comes with no care and no responsibility ;D

Acknowledged GMC, I have suspicions and an educated guess but it will cost me about $400 US to back myself on a hunch. Soooo, I was kind of hoping for a definitive, resounding confirmation before I click the Buy Now.

Cheers Jason
