Honda CR250 M frame
« on: October 01, 2018, 04:34:00 pm »
I’m looking to replace my 73 CR 250 frame as its constantly cracking. Does anyone know if the MTor MR frames are usable ? My only concern would be the down pipe attachment points.

MT and MR both have high pipe. MR better than MT IMO. If starting with frame could weld pipe mount on to frame before you paint and assemble

If it was Historic road racing, someone would make a CroMo replacement.
It would cost $15K  ;)

I was reading about Historic Suzuki Katanas, they had custom CroMo frames, and mega buck engines/Suspension/etc. Seemed to cost at least as much as a new Superbike. (And they aren’t cheap!!)

Whereabouts does it crack? It is usually possible to properly repair and reinforce a frame.
If you love it, lube it.

MR250 is 76 only so would bump the bike out of pre 75 class if you were racing  and were to use one of those frames.

The frame has cracked in the past on both lower rails , around the area of the gear lever and rear brake lever. These were repaired and are still intact. The new crack is at the upper rear engine mount on the left hand side. The result (or cause) was that the engine case mount where the bolt goes through also cracked and lost a chunk of material.

OK. Doesn't sound dire enough to warrant another frame and engine cases with that damage are usually easily repairable.

Probably the result of loose engine mount bolts.
