Dining out disaster
« on: August 18, 2018, 09:38:31 pm »
Went out to a pub in Maitland tonight for a surprise birthday dinner.  I really don't think I have ever had a worse meal.  With drinks it cost me over $80 for something that you couldn't feed to a pig, because the pig would not eat the friggin shit.  the menu was quite limited so my wife along with a few others chose the pizza, some ate half most only a slice or 2,  so spicy hot they couldn't eat them.  I and a couple sitting near me picked the fish, because no one can stuff up fish and chips can they, big mistake it was awful.  I wasn't expecting the Ritz and most pub meals are okay but this place was terrible.  The food was not stale or anything like that, it was just cooked badly.  So if you are looking for a place for a nice meal give whistlers a big miss.

p.s. If it had been good I would have given them a plug, so it's not just sour grapes.  Which I think was what they were serving for dessert.

too true ,most places now accommodate for these stuff ups or they have a good explanation/s. At the Quinny here in WA ,they actually got on social media and apologised.
Any chef jobs advertised for the venue lately.??  :/
Though nothing worse than wasting a night eating bad food.
cheers
Best is in the West !!

Alan I usually would have something to say about bad food or service, but this was a surprise 60th birthday get together for a few friends and family.  My mate who booked it for his wife was embarrassed and no doubt will contact them and complain.  I didn't want to embarrass  him further by approaching them on the night.  If it had been just my wife and myself I would have asked for a refund and I would have turned it on if I didn't get it.  My pet hates are bad service or food, when I pay money for an item I expect to get what I've paid for, if I don't then I go further.
I suppose having a bitch on here was a way of letting off a bit of steam, as well as maybe saving someone on this forum from having the same bad experience.
Hi Alison, yes I don't think it's to much to expect an edible meal,  I'm not fussy a couple of sausages or some fish and chips is great.  This place like most pubs these days is run and staffed by kids, the oldest would have been 20ish and I really don't think they care what some oldies think.  If you go to a restaurant where they serve hot food then you expect hot food, but the girl sitting opposite me, who was heavily pregnant, had to send her husband to the bar to get her some milk to try and stop the burning.
Not good enough.   Zane

Call me Hoony, everyone does.

yes agree with all your comments.....there's a time and place and your correct.

so true about young people running places these days, owners exploiting the young. look at any take away place like KFC, Macca's.

Yeah, it's not a good situation in the food industry when staff aren't been managed properly. I hate spending money on shit service. jimson
