Quality of replacement COUNTER SPROCKET help & advise ?

Gooday all,

Has anyone ever noticed which replacement brands are hardest or longer wearing?
Or which brands are junk and wear quickly,,, = metal quality?

I am repairing building some XR600 engine projects for myself.

The counter shafts have flogged out on the spline where the sprocket mounts on.

I am thinking cheap quality sprockets maybe wear quickly, then in turn ruin the shaft as they flog
 back and forth? ?

cant help with whats the best brand as been out of the trade too long but your bike is the 2nd bike ive heard of that chewed the splines out on the countershaft which should be harder then the spocket,maybe Honda didn't heat treat it hard enough

The countershaft should be harder than the sprocket and probably is OE but who knows aftermarket. The wear is mostly caused by grit IMHO.

Shafts can be repaired fairly easily by annealing, weld building, recutting and case hardening.
If you love it, lube it.

I have seen this happen to the CT110 posty bikes. Ruins the shaft.

I have not seen it on the NBC110's yet but i replace the sprockets and chains as a set fairly often, probably before the sprockets get real worn but the crappy OEM chains wear out sooner. The older CT's we could run DID o-ring chains on which last many times longer and the sprockets would get more use so more chance to wear on the splines. Honda & AP wont allow aftermarket o-ring chains on the bikes now.

I've heard of the problem and the theory was that the sprockets don't have enough contact width on the spline. The solution I believe was the make an adapter thingee that gave in effect a wider inner base to the sprocket. Sounds good.
