Just dropped in to say hi and glean some valuable information for my upcoming plans to rebuild a 78 CR250R which I am yet to acquire. A mate owns it in Un Zud so I have to get it shipped to WA. My intention is to build it for use at classic MX events and once I become too old for that (which may be sooner rather than later) I will restore it to concourse. Bikes of this era seem to be getting more rare and expensive by the year so I think it will be a keeper.
I have read with interest (well waning interest actually) discussions around the use of later vintage front suspension but as I am not likely to be going for any national titles at my age, I think tuned stock forks will remain in place. I doubt I will ride it hard enough to notice too much difference. I rode a 79 model a couple of years ago (owned by the same mate who is spotting me this one) and it was perfectly adequate for me. My lap times on the CR could not be bettered when I tried on a 2015 KTM125SX so I think I will be the limiting factor rather than the bike

Cheers Richo. Yep, I was intending to join Classic MX. Looking forward to getting to the next race weekend to check it all out.
